I do benefits with my trio however I charge $100.00. That covers gas & misc expenses.
The reality of it is that the band playing gratis actually contributes more than 95% of the attendees when you figure the expense of getting there & you factor in what you normally would make at a standard gig.
Any charity worth it's salt will gladly pay for that, They know their event will be well attended & well received.
The band knows they will be devoting their energy to a well organized event.
Of course there are exceptions, Local family emergency fundraiser etc but for the most part the way I see it the charity is getting a great act for an incredible rate.
