Playing Free Bird!

A Louisiana group called Dash Riprock solved this issue with a tune called "Stairway to Freebird." It's hilarious...basically they blended the two songs as obnoxiously as possible. You can probably download it somewhere online;)

Funny Im reading this. I just went to a friend's gig the other day, and of course someone yelled out "Free Bird!". The guitar looks out and super flicks a middle finger and says "didnt cost you a dime". I was rollin lol.

Fly on Freebird!

Awesome. I had to laugh, not flame'n on Skynrd or anything. I think they were a great band, but growing up in the good ole' south You can get a bit tired of hearing their songs. I think I recall even hearing Freebird at a funeral one time.

As someone who grew up in the south and still resides there. It is nauseating how often this song is played and or requested.

What I find even more nauseating is how it's been equated with the conservative south as some kind of theme-song, while the band was anything but conservative.

I like Blue Man Group's take on it. For the unaware, there is a part of their show where they start to play various popular songs on tuned PVC pipes. A plant in the audience calls for Free Bird, at which point the backing band starts it up. One of the Blue Men pulls out a lighter, but another one puts it out with a fire extinguisher.

Not much escaping it in the South, so I prefer teasing the opening before leading into something much heavier (usually thrash metal or some NWOBHM) to throw 'em off.
