Playing jazz on a Hofner violin bass

Meh.... I have previously mentioned that I have big gorilla hands... The kind that you can't ever find gloves for... the kind that send women and children screaming "GOOD LORD, WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIM?!"....

But I am 99% finger style, and I have no prob with the narrow spacing on the Epi... YMMV...

Strings: I love the TI jazz flats on the Epi...

I think the Epiphone Viola bass is a better value than the Hofner Contemporary, it's half the price, and better made IMHO. I A/B'd both at GC recently, and the Contemporary is just plain stupid overpriced. My son owns a cheap Jay Turser Beatle bass that looks and sounds better than the Hofner Ignition series, don't waste any time on those, import junk.

I have a Höfner ignition with some pyramid flats and it's amazing to play jazz on and gets quite close to an upright in sound. But for some reason the sound gets ruined after the 12th fret on the A and E string with the flatwounds. The D and G are fine though.

My old Hofner has been defretted for years now, and I use a fishman archtop bridge with a piezo pickup instead of the hofner bridge and pickups. Sounds great for jazz.

How did you do this? Is there a post or thread that explains how to install a piiezo on a Hofner????????

Jazz on a Hofner Violin Bass might work because it kinda does look like a Scaled Down Electrified Upright Bass that's morphed into the Shape of a Guitar & worn on a Strap.
