Playing my first show tomorrow night

Alt punk/metal band and I'm completely terrified. Been practicing everyday for a few weeks. All original music so it's like you know... the crowd will love it or hate it I suppose and I'm soloing at the begining of two songs which is the scary part lol. Going with my squier VM PJ bass. Guess we'll answer the question of "can you gig with an affordable bass" and all that jazz. Wish me luck guys.

Good luck, enjoy, and yes you can gig with any playable good sounding bass! Nerves may come into play but once you get out a clam or two you may find that you'll feel relieved and get comfortable shortly thereafter. Sounds like you put some time in... awesome. Get out of your head and make the most of it, you'll be great!

Just play from your heart. Focus on the timing more than the notes. If you flub a note, few people will notice. Keep the timing solid. Good luck and HAVE FUN!

I was also terrified the first time I played with a band in public. By the time we finished our first song my jitters were mostly gone.

That's the weird thing about performance jitters. They're almost always at their worst the moment the show starts, then pretty much disappear once you're actually playing.

Incidentally, I was until recently playing bass in a punk band. I often played shows with a Squier Affinity P bass, which I believe is even more affordable than a VM Squier. So yes, it can be done.

Good Luck - it'll be a blast! I'm sure we all remember our first gig and the heady mix of trepidation and excitement - just embrace it and don't get to hung up about it. It sounds like you've done your homework so from here on in it will be your best performance to date! FWIW, IME your Squier VM will be fine. I used a Squier JV Precision back in the day and it was totally up to the task.

Play through no matter what. Picture the audience naked. Eat first but not too much.
Tune your bass the second it comes out of the case and then again 1 minute before the curtains rise.
There's two types of people; stage people and audience people. Be the first type.
