Playstation 4 VS Xbox One

^^^ What a lot of people are hating on the XB1 for. Things like -
Kinect is a part of the unit, and the camera is ALWAYS on, you cannot turn it off ostensibly so MS can gather data on who and what number of people are playing, games cannot be played without an internet connection, the unit must "check in" with the "main office" once every 24 hours, or the unit/games will not be playable, constant and ubiquitous DRM on all games, inability to played used games, no backwards compatibility, and a number of other annoying little features. You should see how the XB1 is getting trashed on the gaming forums. A lot of long time Xbox fans are jumping ship.
Myself, when I do get one, perhaps in two or three years, it'll be the PS4, which it likely would have been anyway. I would have given the XB 1 a shot, but not now (or ever), this stuff is just .... stupid.

The XB1 does not restrict used games, in any way. The only "restriction" I know of is to be able to log into and retrieve your game from the cloud on up to "only" 10 consoles. They are leaving it up to the publishers to decide licensing issues, who can make you pay for a license within their game.

The used game thing is tricky...An awesome game like the most recent Tomb Raider LOST money despite selling 3.4 mill copies in the first 3 weeks. That is considered a huge success for the gaming industry.

If publishers require each console to have an individual license for each game, they could perhaps lower prices of games, and price more competitively, but their backs are against the wall. To produce a game with the quality of Tomb Raider, you must put considerable resources into it and these big budget, big studio releases we all love so much and they will disappear because they are almost impossible to make money on unless you are Call of Duty. Otherwise we in general will see a great decline in the quality of games and the market will veer more toward indie developers.

Don't get me wrong, I love buying second hand games, and renting games...In fact, I played through Tomb Raider in 3 days for $6 from Redbox. This second hand market and rentals cut into their profit. $60 is too high a price for most games, but if they can monetize their games more, they can perhaps lower the prices, allowing gamers like me to feel better about getting into a game earlier and not waiting until the used price comes down.

It's working on Steam :)

microsoft does not have gamers in its board room...

“With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

PS4 (out of the two, though granted, PC FTW).

One is a games console, one is a home entertainment unit.

PS4 is cheaper, doesn't have stupid levels of DRM, better spec.

None of the exclusive Xbox games look all that interesting, the games I'm interested in are cross platform. Also worth noting, many games have been "announced on xbox", they haven't been announced as being exclusive.

Also, while we're at it, did you guys see the BF4 trailer? So pretty!

Ermahgerd! When that skyscraper with objective C on top fell, I got a little half chub. I hate to "dog" on CoD, but how do you compete with that? ;)

For anyone who hasn't seen: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/news/view/2925730256649102367/

I'll agree that it isn't ideal, though it does just bring it to par with the XBox Live.

Though on saying that, PS+ does let you play a lot of games for free, including some AAA titles. I don't know if Xbox live does that? PS4 will still connect to the net, even without PS+, so you don't need PS+ if you want to use Netflix etc., it seems that that isn't the same for xbox live.

Also, with needing to connect to the net every 24 hours, I wonder, do you need an Xbox Live account to play single player games offline? I haven't found an answer to that one yet.

I'm disappointed to see that there is now a $50 a year charge to game online with Sony. That would have made switching over alot easier.

Exactly why I will be moving to PC.

You know, I always heard the lecture from the rents about " the box" that "has to be filled" when it came to gaming consoles.

Now I realize that, I just want to build an awesome PC and emulate my games.

The Skyscraper bit looks f-ing sweet!

So much of BF4 is making me happy. They've brought back the commander position! 5 man squads, 64 player games on console :D

Also seems you'll be able to use tablets (and presumable a PS Vita or the PS4 controller touchpad) in relation to extra controls in the game. I suspect it could be an extra command interface for the player running commander :)

Times are changing, but while I love PC gaming, there is something different about console gaming. Being sat on the couch instead of at a desk. Though as said, that's changing with the likes of Steam Big Picture :D

It's also in part peer-pressure of sorts, well, maybe not pressure so much, more that most of my friends aren't big PC gamers and I prefer to game online with mates while having some voice chat for plenty of banter!

No voice chat on PC?

As far as getting to the couch, I'll just run an HDMI cable to the tv.

Ironically, I want to play on the Wii U.

PS3 interested me to a degree, I always thought about how many hours I could sink into little big planet.

I guess it's simply the fact I never bought into Xbox live.

Wow! So, Microsoft is on the NSA bandwagon, huh?

Im not saying Sony isnt, but at least theyre not so blatant about it.

Of course there is, I just don't have many friends who play PC games regularly!

Meh. I doubt the NSA would be able to do much useful with the info provided any more than they already can gleam from their existing sources. I would think advertisers would be all over this thing though which I personally find even more annoying. MS is betting big on its name and trying to squeeze more cash out of the console business. It doesn't look like its going to work out for them at this point. Watch them back track on all this nonsense before launch. There's no reason to bar gaming because of some arbitrary 24 internet connection BS and the used games thing is a deal breaker for many many people.

I am down on physical media as a whole and I would buy digital copies of games even if it meant certain restrictions. The immediate gratification of electronic delivery is worth something but if I buy a physical copy of something I should be able to sell it.
