Please explain Zombie

The whole fascination with Zombie culture...
What is the deal?

I've loved zombie flicks since I was a kid in the 70s.. I've loved them for the slow creeping sense of doom and overwhelming apocalypse... but mostly, it's not so much about the zombies per se, as it is about what happens when the societal norms break down and people have to rely on themselves. each movie is a different take on the human condition and a different scenario possibility of how we would react.
but Im sure for some it's about the chance to pop alot of people in the head once they turn and feel like they're doing a public service.

I like zombie films because I like to see morons get eaten.

Also, because I like to imagine how awesome I would be defending myself if the world was ever overrun by them.

I think it can often be used as a good way to have a 'human' enemy, but one with no political, cultural or racial attachments. They are always the bad guys, regardless of where you come from. On saying that, I also like the Zombie Nazi films out there, doubley unlikeable characters!

I also like that they can be used as the antagonists right across the comedy-serious spectrum. It's also a great excuse to have an overkill bloodfest

That's part of what Romero was touching on in Dawn of the Dead, but they're a great stand in for a lot of topics. The original Night of the Living Dead was more about revolution than consumption for me.

I think in general they're a way for us to explore societal unrest.

I liked the zombies in the 28 movies. And the sound-track, especially the adaptation of East Hastings.

Any zombie that doesn't naturally synchronize to classic Sabbath tunes has evolved beyond its pay grade.

My take on it is that directors can get away with more violent and bloody scenes because it's not 'real' people getting killed.

If the same killing and gore were to be against 'normal' people, they'd never get past the censors.

Plus, the more popular something is, the more garbage will be made for the quick sell. Remember that just a few months ago you couldn't move for vampire tv/movies.

Another thing is that it saves money on special effects. You get a bunch of make up, and a sack of guts from the abattoir. Since it's all 'post-apocalyptic' there's no need for elaborate sets. You just go into the woods, or an abandoned factory.

A bit lazy, if you ask me.

Although they weren't technically radioactive reanimated corpses. They were infected with a rage virus.

28 is one of the best zombie movies out there imo. Don't be so harsh on quick zombies and people who like them.
