my band just bought pro tools LE, a M-Audio interface that is compatible with pro tools, and a mixer. after spending 2 days, were stuck. we installed the interface software first, like it says to, and then installed the pro tools, but for some dumb reason the pro tools isnt recognizing the interface. we are using a pc, which sucks, but we dont have a mac. any ideas, suggestions, help, would be appreciated. cheers:crying:

I was under the impression that with M-Audio interfaces, you had to use Pro Tools M-Powered. I thought was just for the digidesign interfaces. Don't take my word to heart, though. I really have no idea.

Well, it would seem to me that you trusted them to hook you up with the right thing... even though it's opened, it is their fault if they sold you the wrong thing, telling you that it would work (or even if they gave you the wrong thing by accident).

I'd go back with the software, ask for the manager and explain the situation. Worth a shot if you haven't tried already. They *should* make it right by exchanging it for the PT m-powered version.

What's your system/machine and which interface is it? If I recall when I installed a couple other m-powered systems previously that you're supposed to install PTMP without the interface connected.

were running it through a pc, which is the first problem, but were poor so thats what we got. the instructions say to install the interface first( which we did) and then pro tools ( also did), and then its supposed to work. but even after all that pro tools isnt recognizing the interface hardware( at least thats what the error pop up message says). weve tried everything, and we cant return pro tools now that the box is open, so were basically screwed unless we can figure this out.:crying: :crying: :crying:

Is it the Delta 410 (PCI card), or the FireWire 410?

If it's the Firewire version, there's a few things you need to troubleshoot...

1. Is your firewire port working? If you plug something else into it, does it work correctly?

NOTE: m-audio recommends that you DO NOT hot plug the interface to/from the computer while the computer is powered on... so shut it down first. I've read of fried FW ports because of this.

From the manual...
"You must shut down your computer any time you wish to connect or disconnect the FireWire 410 from the system. Failure to do so may cause damage to your computer’s or FireWire 410’s FireWire ports."

Also, this is from the manual (as I had mentioned in my previous post)...
"Do NOT connect the FireWire 410 to your computer until you have
run the installer program and shut down your computer."

If you suspect that it may be the computer FW port, try another one (if there's more than 1), if there's only one, you should try the interface with another machine to rule out that the 410 is toasted.

2. Be sure youhave the latest drivers...

3. Uninstall it all and try re-installing again.

yeah, hopefully that doesw help, sounds like good info. its the firewire 410. and the ports do work, we know that, so maybe we have to try hooking it up when the computer is off. and its a pretty reliable computer, so it shoudlnt be that. thanks man, and more suggestions are tottally welcome.
