Please reccomend me a 2x10 cab

okay i want a 2x10 cab to take back and forth to Band reharsals. i probab;y WONT gig with it unless it was a super small venue. ( i have an ampeg 8x10)

The reason i am doing this is because my 8x10 is just too much a hassle for a couple hours rehersal and to do it multiple times a week it just gets rediculous. when a 2x10 cab will work just fine because i put my 8x10 at 1/2 power any ways.

the cab does not need to sound AMAZEING simply because i am onlyuseing it for rehersals or posibly small gigs. THe tone just needs to sound decent enough to live with. I'm hopeing to gwt a good deal on the used market so i get a good cab for a sweet deal.

Edit: i forgot to mention my "head" i have an ampeg SVP Pro tube preamp running into a Crown CE1000

the cab must handle 275W at 8 ohms or 450W 4 ohm. because thats what my power amp dishes out per side.

i'm looking at the used market and here is what i have found so far.

SWR GoliathII 2x10 w/ ElectroVoice speakers.
Trace Elliot Trace Elliot 2103H 2x10
Basson 2x10
And a old mesa boogie 2x10 here is a pic so you know the one i am talking about.the model number is not listed.

if theese were all the same price of $200-300$just about (because they all are) wicho ne do you thing would be the best deal?

I cannot find out of any of theese cabs are 4 or 8 ohm models because each are made in bolth configurations and they are not listed as to wich ones theese are; i am trying to find out right now but they are slow at replying

i think a ampeg 2x10 would be perfect. (SVT,BXt, or portabass series) but i cannot find a good deal used one. not that many for sale at this time.

if anyone else has any sugestions on a good 2x10 cab please let me know remember i'm shopping used so it's all aout what is available at the time..

A friend of mine was in the same situation as you, and got an older Mesa Roadready 2x10 for a good price. He said he was really surprised at how full it sounded for a small cab. Roadready cabs are quite heavy though.

Since you have a SS head I would definitely recommend looking out for a 4 ohm cab if you can.

I would stay away from the Ampeg svt 210 they fart out quickly.
I had one years ago and it was unusably in a live setting. I switched out the speakers with some better Eminence.
I just picked up a GK blx210 from MF for $200 new for the same reason as you for rehearsal.

I've had really good luck with a 2x10 combo for band practice. You walk in, turn it on and practice. No head to carry around or hook up. Traynor makes a 200 watt 2x10 for around $500. You should be able to find a good 2x10 combo used for around $300 or so. (jmho)

ok well weight is not an issue it is more of a volume issue.

i will probabl choose whichever one is 4 ohm because i would like to have the extra power.

nobody comented on the SWRcab.soo ..can i rule that one out? is it bad?

how is the avatar? it has emenene speakers in it so it should sound very akin to the Fender pro cabs right?
im interested in the B210neo. i like how it is 500W at 4 ohm so i can get more volume. also digging the orange tolex for $10 extra (by the way i HATE carpet cabs) but how does it sound?
can i get a comparison of thier 2x12 and thier 2x10 tones? i generrally dislike 12's for bass but i like the GK 212 adn 412 neo cabs. how loud is the 2x10?

Here is a link to my 2x10 shootout, which may be helpful. The Ernie Ball Music Man HD-210 is definitely one of the star 'bang for the buck' performers in the shootout.

Though I did not include one in the shootout, I have played several older Trace Elliot 2x10's, and I agree that they are really great cabs. Of those listed on your used gear list, I would go for the Trace first, and the Boogie second.

Tom.

Let me justify myself before I recommend some thing. I have three set ups: 2x10 bxt ampeg with a Marshall 3550, a Road Ready Mesa 6x10 and an Ampeg B5R and a 2x18 + 4x10X Bag End stack being run by various preamps two Crown XTi4000 amps.

Now having said that; what do I take to reheasal? I found an older Carvin 2x10 with horn (the Red Eye series) wedge in a pawn shop for $75. It's really light, cheap, works great with either the Marshall or the Ampeg rack and when we've got two gigs in one day a great back up cab for a second system. Even works for a auxillary monitor if needed or possibly a bass monitor for the drum. Use it as a front bass wedge, toss a
D12E mic on it and it will work for a bit larger gigs. If you know how to not to overdrive a cabinet to the point of "farting" and are looking for a rehearsal solution that's not a one trick pony, this might do the trick for you.

I have the same dilemma. I have a great rack system (EV Q66 Power Amp; SWR Grand Prix preamp; Bag End 410 cabinet, etc.), but need something much more portable for practices. Most people would not be in a position to consider what I'm thinking of, but I have my eye on a Markbass 210 combo. Everything I've heard and read is that they are awesome; but they are VERY expensive. I just retired from a law enforcement job and got a very nice gift certificate for Guitar Center. So even though I would normally not be able to spend the money required for the Markbass, that's what I'll probably get.

Do any of you have any thoughts (good or bad) on the Markbass equipment? Thanks to all...
