Hi, newb here! Great forum you guys got!

I'm about to get my first proper bass guitar and I need some advice. I'm on a budget so I'm looking for something with good bang for the buck.

I love the bass sound in this Kino song so please have a listen before making a recommendation. I also like John Taylor's bass in early Duran Duran. I'd prefer a slim neck but the sound is the most important.

I guess I'll have to try a couple of basses myself, but knowing what I like I thought I'd get try and get some pointers. I asked the same question on Gearslutz and I was told that what I'm probably looking for is a "a Fender with one J style pickup and one P style pickup".

The best thing you can do right now is actually go out and play as many different basses as possible, including 5 and 6 strings and basses that are within and out of your price range.

This will help you determine what feels and sounds good in your hands and what doesn't. Once you start doing that, you'll quickly find out rather quickly what you like and what you don't.

Another vote for Peavey. They're the 'unsung' basses that players here will rave about, and for good reason. Any good used USA Peavey bass will pretty much fall into a great price range and are made very well and have beautiful tone. But that's just MHO based on MHE. Try out as many makes/models as you can, and let your ears and hands be the final judge.

Recommend the Squier Vintage Jag P/J config. Also, on the language front, english might not be most primary language and what r we bass players or grammarians. Sometimes, like people language evolves. IMHO just KIM (keep it moving) because love is love and hate is well....
