Can do both easily. In EZD3 there is a tab "bandmate". You drag and drop an audio/file and it finds a bunch of grooves that work extremely well. It's nuts, I absolutely dig it. Sure, not every single beat is 100% perfect, but adjustments/edits can always be made. I've only had a chance to fool with it a short time, but being kinda lazy and not always wanting to take the time to program beats, I think I'll end up using this feature a whole bunch.

Based on this and earlier comments, this sounds like what I need.

More 4/4 Drum Loops

The YT EZdrummer clip is a stock AFIK rock pattern. It does not suggest playing behind the beat. To me it drags as it's on the video. If you can't tell then don't expect me to not be able to tell also.

I can tell real drum loops are on time.

And I did mention with these programs unless you're a drummer or have drummer sensibilities moving MIDI squares on a grid what a rabbit hole to go down into. And it's still all 1's and 0's. Unlike a human drummer which is analog. All the inbetweens no "either -or."

I'm not talking about MIDI even if others are.

If a drum track has to be worked on until it plays in time referenced against something else other than a click track IMO it's a waste of time.

Find a loop, link it together.

So that we can put an end to this, stick to your MIDI solution. I'm just putting it out there for real drummer loops. You want to construct songs or you want to tinker-toy around with endless drum possibilities?

If you're not a drummer get a real one.

You can still create entire drum tracks as it has individual snare, kik, tom, cymbal hits besides the loops.

Listen to some of the loops below. Can you get monster drummer licks like these from software?

This post is dragging. It's something you have to sense. Something you have to have a feel for. If you can't tell, there's not much anybody can do to help but you need to fix the issue. And it drags on it own - a logical, lucid or sensible post as a reference is not required to tell. :yawn:

Yup, a drum pattern that drags within itself is key. But if one can't sense what is being discussed then it turns into the Brawndo scene in Idiocracy.

I finally pulled the trigger on EZdrummer 3 and … I don't find much EZ about it right out of the gate :banghead: I bought it almost entirely for the bandmate feature that supposedly matches grooves to recorded bass lines and … it doesn't sound like it "listened" to what I fed it AT ALL. I'm hoping it's something I got wrong in Reaper (maybe a bit of "dead air" at the start of the track throws it completely off? or not starting on the "1?" but why don't the drums just kick in when the program detects audio?), or that it just needs a completely unprocessed signal (I don't think of my typical bass sound as especially dirty, but it's not exactly clean, either). I had really hoped for a magic bullet here, but apparently I have to battle yet another user-unfriendly program and manually input every hit to ever get my original material out there :banghead: I'm feeling incredibly discouraged at this point. How did bunches of intoxicated 20-year-olds ever record all my favorite albums?!
