The Gk 800 rb is a great amp you can get one on e-bay for $200-$300. I wouldn’t bi amp it though I would run both cabs in parallel to get the 300 watts at 4 ohms. I would also recommend selling your SWR amp on e-bay your self they don’t give you much for trade-ins.

I can't sell my Workingman on Ebay though because I'm not entirely sure it's working properly. At least if I take it to GC as a trade in they can check it out and tell me if it's ok or not before I actually spend any money. So I might be working them for some free tech. I also may be able to get it hooked up with a power amp and see how that works while I'm there. I can use the XLR DI output from the (lazy)workingman into the power amp input right? At least I would be getting some use out of the thing that way.

I'm also not sure about my 210T. It may work fine but not with my amp. It gets farts out pretty early on if I try to give it any bass at all, which is why I wondered about putting that one on the high freq side. My new Avatar 15" Seems to have no problems but the amp won't drive that one very loud either.


I wish I could return the SWR setup I have but I got it as a consignment from a hole in the wall shop and I did check it out the best I knew how at the time. I can't burn someone on Ebay for my mistakes.

i maybe late to the party but I play a workingman4004/210/115 and it's fine for most gigs and jams.
I played a barn and felt like my stage sound was a bit muddy due to high volumes and a large area (I'm thinking of getting a 410 to fix that) But people said it sounded fine off stage. Some even said I was booming in the back of the room.

I used to play with a hard hitting drummer and a guitar play that had a Marshell 412 and 350watts. I got swollowed up in a small area with them. But that was too much sound too small of room.

The rig you have should be fine for most bars and clubs. The 15" take a bit of time to develop were the 10" are in your face. with 210's you maybe louded at 30 or 40 feet then you think you are at 10feet.

Well here we are. I went to GC tonight and took my crap with me. Not the new 15" Avatar, just the blown up SWR stuff. The guy was cool and helped me hook up my head and cab to all sorts of stuff. My cab didn't work well with any heads and my head didn't work well with any cabs! Amazing! So I brought home a new Behringer BX3000T. Really not what I was after but it was cheap at $229.00 AND NEW and I can return it for a FULL refund within 30 days if I decide to do so. I'm still tempted to return it in favor of one of the QSX power amps they had up there though.


I think the preamp section of my workingman is ok since it plays fine until I push it. Would using the wounded head for a preamp just be ******** or what? I hate to just trash the stupid thing if it can somehow be useful.

And can I get replacement speakers for my cab at anything resembling a decent price? From what I've read on the forums it seems like SWR has no replacement parts, and to put some other 10" speakers in there would be a bad idea. Uh, can I get the speakers repaired maybe? The GC guy seemed to think the whole rig was a lost cause. Probably true but I can't give up on it that easily I guess.

Of course the guy was telling me all about how nobody uses 15's anymore and how I would be so much happier with a 410 instead....

Ok I got the Behringer for 30 days unless I decide I like enough to not return it. In the mean time if you see how clueless I am about bass amplification would you please share some thoughts or ideas to get me going without going broke. I'm good for maybe another $300-$400 before I get too frustrated to even play.

Replacing speakers in the 210 is a good idea imo.
If you measure the cabinet size, you can use winESD to calculate what the correct porting should be, thats the main issue.

You could ask Dave at avatarspeakers.com to sell you some Eminence deltas or kappas. These wont distort easily and are loud.

The behringer has got some good reviews on harmony central. Make sure your cabs are in order before juding the amp.

I sent Dave an email asking about replacement speakers. Hopefully he can help me get my 210 cab back in business so I can get a full combo and actually play. Playing the new Behringer BX3000T head through the 115 (with horn) so far hasn't been very promising. The tone is nice and I like the warmth of the new amp but there's that volume problem again! I was able to turn it up a little louder than what I could do with my Workingman head but still ran into amp clipping before I could get really loud (like the guitar player can with his 40W 1x12" tube amp). I expect the volume and tone will both improve, and that the cut will especially improve when I get that 210 hooked up along with the 115. That will make a big difference, right?

I don't think about horrific sound levels here since that 40W guitar rig is painfully loud when up all the way. So far anything I've done to this point has only achieved barely passable volume levels.

If I get a QSC RMX1450 and preamp that's going to have some serious power won't it? I can always turn down if it's too loud and headroom is a good thing at least with solid state equipment I would think.


I'll give the Behringer amp a chance with the complete 210 and 115 setup @ 4 ohms before making any other decisions on that. I've read a ton of good things about the BX3000T regarding both sound and volume so I'm hopeful that it will work out as part of a bass rig that will satisfy my tone and volume requirements.
