Point of Signature strings?

Does anyone use or find the use of signature strings?
Steve Harris and Flea's sig sets aren't that to uncommon from much cheaper alternatives.
Is this just for marketing or am I just missing something?

They are different from standard sets..

There is a jazz bass 77 set with the same gauges as the Harris... But the Harris has extra polishing and feel much smoother than the standard 77...

The flea boomers have a specially formulated E string different from what is in other boomer sets.


Other signature sets may have a specific gauge combination different than what is found in standard sets.

This is not correct. According to @Jon Moody, there is nothing special about the Flea Signature set; they're identical to the regular 45-105 Boomers except the name on the package.

The only difference it seems is something special on the E string but that's about it

I did ask him about the E string. No, there is nothing special, period.

I believe the under winding is stainless and the outer is nickel plated steel, rather than just two nickel plated steel winding...

DR fat beams used to have Marcus Millers picture on it. He left DR and the DR fat beams stayed the same but dropped in price as his face isn't on it anymore...

The funny thing about the Flea signature set is it's the Flea name that kept me from trying the Boomers till now. Talk about reverse marketing!

Fodera Victor Wooten and Matthew Garrison sets used to be NPS on all layers while the regular sets used to be SS under and NPS outer... Now they are all NPS all layers and the signature strings are not available. (Same as standard sets now)

As said - a number of times - there isn't anything different from the Flea Signature set and the M3045 Bass Boomers set.

The description being cited can be applied to the entire Bass Boomers line.

D'Addarrio still says their LongScale strings fit scale lengths of 36 7/8 inches... Has for years... I talked to them about it years ago, no change...

Speaking of signature sets, you deserve to have your name on every package of Dunlop SuperCrunchy Nickels the way you've been promoting them.
