Political Science Class (Rant)

Nah, it wasn't unheard of, it just REALLY wasn't well known, and like I said, it really threw people for a loop.
Ha, I've had liberals who thought I was liberal and liberals who thought I was conservative.
It's gotten to the point where I don't think people even know what the heck they are talking about at all even more. I'd even go so far as to say that there are plenty of people out there who claim to be liberal who are really conservative, and plenty of self-claimed conservatives who really are liberal. They just don't know it because they've remained ignorant to what those words really mean and imply.
What they really mean is the same thing, just from different sides of the fence.
I think that depends on your circle. The drummer in my band in 1995 was a registered Libertarian (at least he claimed to be).

welcome to America, home of the free, jp58, you born and raised there by the way? It takes a while for many to find the door out of reactionary paradise.
I've met some pretty dumb people and some really bright people in college. But overall I think I've met way more smart people than dumb ones.
You must go to a special school or something. College kids are just like High School kids. Not very bright, for the most part.
This is my experience. While I have met some brilliant people, for the most part I would say it is just an extension high school.

I always described myself as a Libertarian since back in the mid '80's or so. But in my case it's because my Mom is a wild-eyed raving Democrat. And my Dad is so conservative that I'm not sure he approves of fire or the wheel. I basically just chose 'other' to not seem to be picking one side or the other.
Until just the last couple of years, Libertarians mostly didn't get mentioned at all in the media unless they were serious whackjobs.
Right now, Austin Peay. But I am mid-transfer to Knoxville, or at least I'm doing the paperwork needed to transfer. I've been going to transfer since I was a freshman, and now that I really only have 3 semesters left, I'm really questioning if its worth it.
I've said I was a libertarian since high school. That position has changed a little since then, especially with the economy, but I've always been told that I need to get a real party.
Yes and no. Ron put it on the map nation wide as a party, but there have always been closet libertarians.
I was registered Libertarian and attended several Objectivist meetings in the early 1990s - it wasn't that uncommon on college campuses at the time.
Always remember there is a difference between intelligent and informed. As polarized as this country is, I doubt anyone getting information from one source can be considered informed.

Guess, but don't post about it as it is against the rules.
Let it be a lesson that people get all the bad government they want because they will vote it in, as they get dumber and dumber, sheep-like and more sheep-like, greedy for the unearned they think will be coming their way.
That's not surprising. We had to invent the word "libertarian," because most people don't understand the difference between a liberal and a socialist. The mainstream political discourse has bastardized those two words to mean the same thing.
So rather than what these other people have to say, what have you learned about political science from this class?

Perception?
Facts and how to apply them?
What causes belief systems and people to vote one way or the other?
Do most really care enough to look into it much?
Is is always about the $?
Is business and marketing similar to Poly Sci, how so?
It is an interesting course, I've never cared too much what the other students thought, much more the topic/ideas where more interesting to me.
