Double Bass Poll: Inexpensive Pickups for Jazz (Goal: MBOL)

I'm personally a fan of the AKG C411, another contact mic. It requires phantom power, but the price is really reasonable (cheaper than almost all on your list), and on my bass it sounds way better than any piezo. I've used it in big bands with no feedback or bleed issues plenty of times. It can take time to find the right spot to mount it and get the EQ where you want it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I purchased a Full Circle this morning. Will hope for an income tax refund that will allow me to play with one of the inexpensive contact mics.

DoubleMidi offers reasonable advice but I sure wouldn't commit to the MSP as your body transducer. Stay tuned to the Ischell review thread.

Also, I see no issue with the utility of your poll so long as you recognize its substantial limitations. Forget MBOL, as others have suggested. Of course, as DoubleMidid points out, the only responses you'll get are from those who have experience with this or that pickup. I considered that to be self-evident. Folks can't answer re unknown pickups. You won't ever be able to determine what's "best." Many who have used this or that pickup are also familiar with the sound, performance, and limitations of others. So, as is always the case on the internet, everyone has an opinion, but some are far more informed than others. You can evaluate that by knowing who is posting. FWIW, I voted for the Rev Solo II. That's my backup to the Ehrlund. Truth be told, as long as I've had the Ehrlund, I've not used the RS II. That experience includes small combo, big-band, and somewhat loud gigs.

No P/U is inexpensive an Underwood works very well, its in simple design and sounds great. I have used one since the mid 90's with out one failure. These also have a very small footprint. K
