I find it that each bass works best with one particular set, but the set is rarely the same.

My current two P basses are strung with TI flats and DR lo-riders (SS rounds). DRs did not work well on the other bass, but GHS Pressurewounds did. So I voted that, but that’s a silly vote...

It completely depends on what kind of sound you’re after. I’m a big fan of Micheal league. I dig his tone and feel and he’s a P with flats type of guy. But that type of sound doesn’t work for my modern rock/metal band at all. That said if you have a good variety of basses in your collection I do recommend having a p with flats and a jazz or something more modern sounding with rounds. It helps differentiate the basses from each other even more.

Not a PBass but I had a set of the GHS Balanced Nickels briefly on a SR5 and then for a long time on my Moollon J5. I really wanted to like them but they just didn't work well for either bass. They were a tad too slinky and a bit too warm for a round - maybe that's the point. Or maybe I should try them on one of my PBasses

Yes, I think "too warm" is a good description. I like them exactly because they nicely occupy the sonic space between flatwound and roundwound, I think better than groundwound or pressurewound, even though they are, in fact, roundwound. I found them a great replacement for (and, in most points, an improvement over) Labella quarter round strings.

I love the GHS Balanced Nickels on a P Bass for exactly the reason that @trothwell mentions- they act as sort of a “pre-EQ” and curb the highs a touch while really bringing the rich center-mids of a P Bass into focus. Pure Nickel FTW

There is no perfect string set for a P. And shouldn't the tread say something like "the perfect non round wound string set for a P Bass"?

LaBellas, TI Flats and Pyramids were excluded. Those are top contenders for flat wounds.

Actually pressurewounds and balanced nickels are roundwounds.
