Poor Man's Rob Allen Mouse?

Exactly what I use, a fretless Godin w/ tapewounds, and I regularly use it successfully in an ensemble with cello, flute and acoustic guitar. Sounds and blends really well.

I've also had a Godin A4 with Labella strings on it IMO it does not sound anything like a Mouse.

I bought this bass from Tom of MMJ about a year ago and used it in the studio in Feb for the making of my band's new album. Sounds great! I have been thinking of selling it if you are interested in getting it back, or if anyone else is interested in it. I just became a member should have rest of my profile up and running shortly~

Dave Wendler makes a nice bass. I haven't played a Carvin AC but I have to think they would get you in the "tonal neighborhood" of the Rob Allen. I had a Rob Allen 5 and it didn't work for me. I think I'm too stupid.

I went with an EUB as I need the physical part of upright playing to really get that sound and feel. The way my hands feel these days I may have to change my thinking. I'm hoping to work through it. We'll see what 3 nights in a row of EUB playing does...I may be looking again for the upright alternative.

Honestly, I think a fretless P bass with flats is as good an upright substitute as anything.

An Ibanez SRH500F fretless bass. It's a 34 Inch scale. If you want to make it a 31 inch scale use a capo at the 2nd fret with a .015 shim at the 2nd fret under the strings directly underneath the capo. I have not played a rob Allen mouse in a long time but the Ibanez SRH500F bass with tape wound strings and the piezo probably comes pretty close or possibly better even though I know what I said is blasphemous to some but I stand by it. The price can't be beat at $700.​

The Ibanez becomes a short scale (31 inch) bass when a capo is used at the 2nd feet. The 14th fret becomes the octave. Blacken the dots at the 3rd, 12th and 13th frets. Use Rosetta rub on fret dots at the 11th, and 14th feet and you have a short scale bass. I have done it and it works great!!! I am very familiar with short scale basses having a Birdsong, Parizad Hatcher PHD bass and a Huntington supro I modified to sound exceptional well for what it is. Good luck all.
