This might be more of a question for an amp-only forum, but y'all seem pretty well informed and I'm playing an upright so I figured I'd post it here anyway.
So I just picked up an amp, it's an old Sears/Roebuck 200BXL with a 1x15 cabinet, old Jensen speaker. I tried it out saturday night at a little gig down in Hendersonville and it sounded absolutely great. Volume about 1/4 of the way up on the amp, 1/2 the way up on the K&K preamp (Bassmax pickup) was plenty loud to support a drummer, 2 guitars and a lap steel.
The problem occurred about 4 songs into each set, where a couple of specific notes (open G and D, but not a low G) seemed to produce a "pop" or kind of crackle from the amp. It sounded like a problem with a cable but I couldn't reproduce it by wiggling any of the cables. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be. Trying to figure out if it's more likely to be in the amp like dirty pots or overheating, or if it's a speaker issue. How can I troubleshoot it? Thanks!
