Double Bass Popping the top off an Engelhardt...

I added some linen to the ends of the bassbar and started gluing the top back on. The end is in sight.

There certainly used to be something in the water there. Through/with Kesey, I got to play (mostly woodwinds) at Lincoln Center, Town Hall NYC, Edinburough Festival, BRIXTON,and many other venues. A long strange trip, and a wonderful one. I miss him.

Feels pretty good; sounds better than ever.
I might finesse some of the ribs that didn't quite line up the way I wanted, but I'm calling it quits for now.

An Englehart w/ guts is my go to bluegrasser. But if it were as ill-used as yours, I'd use it as firewood.

But, seeing how unproductive I've been on this rainy day, I'm a poor one to criticize how anyone else chooses to spend their time!

I like saving them. I have roughly $100 or so invested in this thing, so why not!

It's also good practice. Gotta keep learning, and what better way than on a beater I have no emotional attachment to.

Now I have to get through the 3 other project basses I've collected over the years.

Any plans to plug that bolt hole in the fingerboard?

Yes. That's next. But I'm considering adding epoxy to the break before I plug it. Really strong hide glue hasn't been great in this scenario. I strung it up as more of a trial run for measurements before I take the neck off again.

I was about to ask if you could recommend an instructional video on raiding tropical fish. Now, I am SO disappointed.

Don't roast me, but I broke down and got the neck back on with T-88 epoxy.

This should work. I just wish the last person that tried fixing it hadn't drilled through the fingerboard twice and inserted hardware store dowels. Oh well. Can't win them all.

I considered this and was going to sign the inside as well. I was really excited to just get it playing again and forgot.

I only remembered when I was putting the last spool clamp on.



Ulrich was a decent violin luthier. I think he just hated basses in his shop.
After seeing his work here, I'm glad I never used him for any repairs (which I had considered before he passed).
