Popular Strings You’ve Never Tried

There's an old joke about a man who sat in his living room, playing a single note on the violin all day long, day after day.

Of course, this became irritating to his wife. Since she was a diplomatic person, one day she said "Dear, I have noticed that when other people play the violin, they play a variety of notes, all over the neck."

He responded "Yes. They're looking for the note; I have found it."

Labella Deep Talkin' flats here. Haven't tried most of the others, and it doesn't bother me a bit.

I’ve tried most of the well known, mainstream brands as well as other brands that you probably won’t find in your local Guitar Center. I may have only used one model from some of those brands, but I’ve at least tried the brand.

ARAICR, I don’t think I’ve ever used any Fenders or Rotosounds.

I’ve found a lot of strings I like and will occasionally try new ones just to do something different or to see what I think of them. I’ll also sometimes leave the original strings on when I buy a new-to-me but used bass if the strings seem like they’re worth giving a shot to impress me. However, none of those strings has knocked DR nickel Lo Riders and D’Addario Chromes out of the top spots as my favorite rounds and flats. I’ll keep experimenting, though. :D

Sunbeams have been my go to, and go back to, brand for several years now. As mentioned previously I’ve flirted with other brands and do switch things out…but on my Stingrays and P’s I just like Sunbeams, and they get the most stage time. I mention this because I’m cleaning out my office and have like 15+ sets of old sunbeams I’ve removed but cant seem to throw away. I’m keeping two for spares and ditching the rest…I wish there was an easy way to recycle:)

i have yet to try flats...... i know, i know!......But i love my rotosound66

I’m really gonna have to get a set of these now…I have the perfect bass, P bass with GZR’s and maple FB…
It’s my “rock” bass. :)

A lot of love on this forum for TIs, Elixirs, Fender and GHS all of whom I have never tried. Back in '77, I popped the g string on my bass, so my dad bought me a taped La Bella string so I can honestly say I've tried La Bella (ps. I removed the tape after a while as all my other strings were stainless steel - that string came to life after the tape was removed).

I've never tried anything coated and I've never tried GHS Boomers. I always hated GHS's packaging when I was young, so I didn't bother with anything they sold. Now that I've read that Boomers die quickly (and that's why so many people like them) I have no interest in them.

Same with me on the coated….give Roundcore Boomers a try, last longer and a nice mid boost.

Never used TI, Labella or Magma.

Tried Cleartone, Elixir, Daddario, EB, GHS ( my favorites ), Dunlop (using them actually), DR, Fender, Rotosound (PSD are gorgeous!) and so it goes... AND a chinese brand called ZIKO, which I'll tell you, are great for the price.

One string I really like is the Dean Markley SR2000, but since they're out of business (?)... The equivalent option for my taste is the Super Steels from GHS...

Those SR2000 are (were?) indeed very awesome strings!! My Lightwave came with a set of those and I was super-impressed. I might still have a brand new set in my string stash that someday soon I will post to the classifieds
(*now that I'm a TI convert, I won't be fooling around with other roundwound strings for a while)

I had to look up Magma. Do you live in South America? Are Magma strings common there?
