Popular Strings You’ve Never Tried

I like what I like. I might try something different if I have a need. But I mostly stick with what I know works for me.

This is the sum of my experience as a bass guitarist as well. Sadly, my preferred bass brand -- Status Graphite -- just announced their retirement. Alas...

It helps that I play flats on short scale basses. Limited choice.

I've tried almost any brand out here. From the cheapest to the ridiculously expensive.
And found out GHS Heavy Bass Boomers work best for me.

I DO use Smiths, GHS, Dean Markleys and D'Addario (8 string sets) though.

DR Lo Riders and anything TI. I rarely change my strings. The one set I would consider buying again is the EB Cobalt Flats but in a lighter / custom set next time. Ix-nay on the Dunlop SuperBright offerings.

I've never tried Ernie Ball strings, but for the pettiest of reasons: I think their logo looks goofy. Yes, I know that's silly, but I am a silly person. I also don't think they will do anything that other strings I've tried don't do just as well, but really it's the logo that stops me from buying them.

I've purchased DR (for years my only string, because that's what the local shop carried for bass strings), D'Addario, Labella, and GHS strings, and I've had a bass that came to me with Rotosound 66s. Those are really the only ones I can think of off the top of my head, so there are plenty of popular brands that I haven't tried yet. But GHS is meeting my needs for the moment, so I don't feel a need to experiment more right now.

Even though I've tried a lot of strings, it's still easier to list the ones I've tried than the ones I haven't, so here goes:

TI: Jazz Flats, Jazz Rounds
Fender: 9050 flats, 7250 rounds, tapes
LaBella: LTF, black tapes, white tapes, copper tapes, gold tapes
GHS: P-Flats, tapes, PressureWounds
EB: Cobalt flats, Group flats
DR: Sunbeams
Sadowsky: Blue Label flats (v2 & v3)
Dunlop: Flats
Pyramid: Tapes
D'Addario: Chromes, tapes

As far as I know I have not played Ernie Ball strings of any flavor
