yesterday was Invalid Link Removed y’all!
For those not familiar, it’s a music fest in a residential neighborhood, where bands play on porches! Streets are closed, food trucks and other vendors set up. Such an eclectic mix of anything you can imagine: salsa, blues, funk n soul, hip hop, sludge rock, free jazz, spoken word, acapella, recorder ensemble.... on and on. 171 performers on 102 porches/locations! My bluegrass band played at 5:00, but the real fun was seeing all the others, and soaking in the joy of the event
Fun fact: Porchfest was started in Ithaca in 2007! But I know it’s spread to other cities. So, who’s got a Porchfest in their town??
Probably my favorite act of the day, noon fifteen. Excellent lead vocals with a super soulful rhythm section. Massive bass tone coming from Fender P deluxe and a tiny line 6 practice amp!
Blues covers. Acoustic bass, played with the thumb!
Singer songwriter, my BL subbing on bass, using my Rumble!
Solo singer songwriter. Keep it up young lady!
I know that drummer! His kid went to my wife’s school
very tight n funky 4 piece.
DB and guitar duo
My bluegrass band, Grassanova. We all agreed our music was the porch-iest.
Very nice down tempo rock w lead female vox.
Guitar duet playing covers. Fun fact: that guitarist did not hire me. No hard feelings!
Salsa band Damn Yanquis. They killed it, had a crowd of 100+!
Also caught the last song of Viva Mayhem, super fun ska band (missed a photo though!) Excellent bass playing and tone coming from a young female bassist (like high school young!) Mustang bass, Rumble 200h and a peavey 2x10 cab.
Well thanks for reading! I’d love to hear about other people’s Porchfest experiences!
