Pork loin or DK vmt?

I mean... that's totally true. They definitely don't sound or respond anything at all like a tube bass amp. I guess it doesn't really matter. There are tons of accurate youtube demos of the DG pedals, pretty easy to tell if it is something you'll like.

An amp having tubes in it tells you about as much about how it sounds as the speaker size of a cab does ;) An SVT doesn't sound or respond anything like a Jule Monique, and both are tube amps.

The only point I was making is that he has an intensely strong dislike for all DG products, and he does, for reasons both practical and impractical; that's really the only reason I suggested to the poster asking for clarification as to why the other fellow referred to the VMT as "VoMiT" to not bother wasting his time :thumbsup:

Currently have both on my board, PL is johnk modded. Got them both about the same time with the intention to run the VMT as the always on pre, and the PL as my OD. The PL is now at the end of my chain, always on, and the VMT is listed in the classifieds.
There is just a baked in tone in the VMT that I can't get dialed out. Not a bad tone AT ALL, just not what I'm after. The PL is my tone with BALLS!

To me, it depends on what you're after. The VMT will add and or impart more of it's own flavor onto your tone. Which some love and some dont. It also has a mid hump many talk about. I myself have used both these pedals. I like both. I ended up sticking with the pork loin. However, mine is modded. I'm sure someone has brought that up by now. It is one simple and accessible cap swap out. To me, it makes the pedal. It was nice before, but now, its so awesome. Super crisp and clear the way I have it set. Im really happy I ended up getting one and modding because its my go-to OD now.

The VMT is awesome too. I had it a few times and really liked what it offers. I'm a DG fanboy mind you. But in the end I already used the B7K ultra and the VMT wasnt quite the direction I was looking to. That mid hump bothered me a little after a while to. Not to say it doesnt play well, it really does. Just wasnt quite what I was looking for. OD, of all dirty effects, is the one I'm most picky about. Still a wonderful drive pedal IMO.

The pork loin, modded, suites my needs and taste better today. It can be bright and transparent or darker and more flavorful. It can do a very mild drive to a bit more. The blend on it is really nice. It also has internal controls that can really open it up to diversity. The VMT also has a really nice way of blending too. The blend isn’t traditional in that it only blends the drive and the flavor of the pedal. So you can keep the drive low but still dial in some DG character which I think is really neat. They are both great pedals. If I were to pick, I would pick the VMT over the UNmodded pork loin. But if the pork loin is modded, I would pick it over the VMT. I just love the way the pork loin is not post mod. Such a great drive pedal.

THANK YOU!! That is how I feel about the Loin as well. It's just so fat and juicy yet still retains my bass tone. It adds just enough bite and grunt to it while keeping my bass's tone in tact. Its super clear and articulate. All that is due to that one cap swap though. It was not like that before. Not bad before, but not as good as the post mod. I can't get enough of the Loin now.

Also good to know, the PL can safely run on +18V to get more headroom. With my basses, it sounded overly harsh at +9V (even with the drive knob rolled off completely), but at +18V it's just perfect for my basses and what I do.

Night and day. Did the cap swap but had headroom issues. Check the link i posted earlier, it has soundclips at 9v and 18v. My PL was barely useable at 9v but it's an absolute keeper at 18.

Mine was ok at 9v. After I did the mod it's like it added all this clarity and lushness to it. It's like a lot have said, it removed the blanket. I'm just worried if I run it at 18v it'll fry it. That's my main drive pedal. Can't lose it. But man I'm really wanting to hear it at 18v now.

It won't.

If you're happy with it as-is it probably won't seem like a dramatic improvement. My basses outputs seemed too hot (especially on the bottom strings) and caused the pedal to saturate immediately. It sounded like fuzz even with the drive turned off and the clean blend at 100%. At 18V this issue is gone.

Yeah all my basses, especially my main player, an Ibanez ATK300, is super strong so I am curious as to how it would act. I've always really liked OD pedals at 18v so I really would like to try it. I actually messaged JohnK and asked him anyway. But again, thanks for the heads up on that fellas :thumbsup:

I've owned both. Played the PL for years. Got the VMT and swapped back and forth for a bit. Recently sold the PL and keep using the VMT.

I could be just as happy with either.

The reason I kept the VMT was I felt it is easier to dial in sounds on the fly. Very east to go from mild to extreme dirt with the VMT and keep the overall volume level the same. I found this priceless on gigs.
