The above headline might seem like a joke. It isn't. Senior staffers at the Securities and Exchange Commission were surfing Internet pornography when they should have been policing the financial system. A deeply disturbing SEC memo to Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) exposing this problem was reported Thursday night by ABC News. Here are some highlights via the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]:

How the eff does a government agency not have firewalls up to block people from going to those sites on the clock? I would think that's just a given.

We are simply getting what we deserve by lowering our standards, not being more critical of our government and refusing to hold anyone accountable for anything.

The headline is more than a little sensational--the SEC has 3800 employees, after all. But this is certainly embarrassing and disappointing for them.

Where I work, the IT group scans company PCs for inappropriate files. If porn is found on your PC it's cause for immediate termination. (That would be a difficult conversation with your spouse.) Maybe only 16 documented incidents but seeing how things played out it might have just been the tip of the iceberg; poor accountability in government...
