Possibly the best ad for a drummer I've ever seen...

On a Facebook group called "Texas bands seeking musicians":

Dear Country Drummers,

Are you looking to take one night off a week from the Pizza Hut to play the drums good enough to make people think you know what you’re doing in a original country band located in Bonham TX? We play gigs in the North Texas and Southern Oklahoma area.

Well, here’s your chance! Due to the unprecedented lack of drummers out there in our area, we had a reality check and we’ve lowered our expectations. We don’t care what you look like. We don’t care what you smell like. We don’t care if you’re a male, female, or both. Are you unreliable and a genuine pain in the ass? Sounds great! Are you frequently told to f*ck off and never come back? Hey, you might be our next Drummer!

If you can somehow manage to stay upright on the drum throne for most of the night, you will likely get the job.

Thank about it! This might be your very last chance to play with good people before you’ve ruined it with everybody?

We’re looking for a permanent Drummer to roll with us immediately. Please don’t expect to make this your main income earning career. We get paid by the gig. And that ain’t a lot. If you think that is you, send me a message on Facebook and let’s get something going this week!

Bonham, TX??? This place oughta be afloat with drummers.

Bonham, TX??? This place oughta be afloat with drummers.

I know, right?

We played a show there last week and as part of a bit, our drummer announced in overly-dramatic, southern-preacher style, how grateful he was to be playing in the town named after Jon Bonham.

It kinda went over a few heads.

Boy do I understand this frustration....Thats why I sub so much, people are flaky. The fun of CL and FB and Bandmix is like Forrest told us "life is like a box of chocolates, never know what you are gonna get" If I totaled all my answered ads, placed etc over 25 years of this I bet 90% of them are crazy/non musician wanna be...BUT the 10% has sustained me for a long time, always in 1-3 bands, and always subbing....so I guess got to go through awesome ads like this one in Texas......IMO this band is 1 second from breaking up...the frustration, plus they seem to be rolling through drummers....maybe its not them, maybe its you?

Georgetown? Hey neighbor! Here's my hat pix. Lord only knows where, some honky tonk on East side of Houston. WAY too many years ago.

If I lived in TX I would totally take that gig and never tell them I am actually a bass player, just to learn to play drums.

One of my buddies is a first rate guitar player, but a few years ago he wanted to learn piano better so he joined a band as the keyboard player and played with them a few months. I don’t think they ever knew he could play guitar much better than either of the other two they had.

Here is a pic of me in my “stupid hat” at the world famous Luckenbach Texas dance hall. I’m sorry you think my hat is stupid. I guess it’s only fair though… I think deep dish pizza, the Chicago Bears, and astronomical murder rates are stupid too ;)

(I do like Michael Jordan, so there’s that I guess :roflmao:)
I like your hat!

My 2 cents about cowboy hats:

Being from the Northeast, no one wears them beside a few people playing in a country band at that moment.

But on my first trip to Texas, I realized I was much closer to the sun, which felt significantly brighter and hotter. If I lived there, I could see possibly owning and wearing one for outdoor activities.

The question comes down to wearing a cowboy hat indoors...I don't know about that, regardless of where in the world you are. Again, probably best for times you are actually on the stage with a country band.

Was his beer tab more than he got paid?
The fired drummer was living in the back of a trailer in Lake Wylie with his vitriol filled ex wife. He had a plan which included not working and smoking kind bud 18 hours a day. He'd call in half an hour before showtime and report "I'm on Tryon Street I can't find the club!!!". Friends, Tryon Street is 30 miles long. It was like talking a person down from a bad acid trip.
