Post Count?

It hasn't been bad, as far as I can tell. But I have seen a few members here that might qualify as postwhores...I can't tell if it's because they don't know how to edit their posts and just go ahead and double (or quadruple) post, or if it's because they feel like "+1" without a qualifier actually adds to a thread.

Whether or not we have post counts or not doesn't bother me, but there are a couple of unspoken notions here that I don't particularly like. The first is that all the threads, posts, and tbrs that hang out here in OT are not as worthy as the song UNO threads, the 'recommend me a pedal', and what do you think about '(insert brand name) strings?' threads. The other vibe I'm getting here is that those that tend to haunt those threads and other forums are somehow more valued members than those who lurk in OT. TB is a great site, but to create a policy that implies that a whole forum, and all its posts is worthless (or rather what you say doesn't 'count') seems to be pithy and divisive at best. Like I said before, I really don't care about post count, even though I have one of the higher ones here, but I'd like to go down on record that to me OT, is the core of this site, and I feel a kind of brotherly (and sisterly) bond with the regulars here. While my first instinct is to shrug my shoulder and say 'so what?', I can't seem to shake the idea that this gesture is kind of mean spirited unless it's levied site wide. My two cents. :)

It was like this on TB when the current version first appeared and for a a few years after that - so you would see post count on every post - like you do for join date.

I think when TB started this was a useful way to see who was new and who was an experienced member of the forum.

So you could make allowances for newbies, who posted in the wrong place or broke the rules or asked silly questions etc...:p

A lot of forums apart from TB encourage post count by giving you automatic titles based on this and stars by your name etc.

TB decided it was silly and removed it from normal view - but I still think it's kind of fun, to see who the highest posters ever are...:p

Actually I was thinking that it's mostly "regular guys"...? *

But if they ever do get rid of postcounts, I will have to retire undefeated, as the heavyweight champion!! :p

Seriously, post count = not a big deal.

Odd that they choose off topics and the Lobby, espcially with the reasons they gave, I would have expected the classifieds to be gone as well, thats mostly "bump" or "free bump". Certaintly less valuable posts than OT.

Really, the post count issue, it should be all, or nothing. :hmm:

i didn't know they kept track of them...most forums put them in your "header" ...i think thats good...i've been to numerous forums with crap posta just to boost a post count. I've been guilty, but luckily i got out of that phase...

i guess i have to learn something about bass now to boost my count. Talk bass needs a "ask the drummer" section...

because the slow tempo part of the brain is also the mouth control, therefor the limited resources are being hogged by tempos less than 70 bpms....:D
