Post-Covid Band Plans?

I voted new and different. This last year has pretty much put a fork in what I had been doing. Covid and other long burning substance issues with members. I am really hoping that two different things happen. First, that I will get back to doing hired work and one offs. Maybe become somebody's bass player. Maybe a singer song writer situation. Second, that I will finally learn to separate the bass playing and production business. And that I will not co-mingle the two of them. Honestly, it's been a serious soul drain for the last decade or so and I'm finding that I'm not having fun or being adequately compensated for either of them.

play as many shows as humanly possible and would be happy to die while doing one of them. I love to gig!!!!

i’ve been writing and recording a lot since covid started, and sent a few demos to folks over the summer to gauge interest in a new project for the after times. i got a LOT of positive response, and did a bunch of outdoor rehearsals with a guitarist and one session with a drummer. now we’re all just waiting it out, and i’m still writing and recording demos from home until we can work on stuff together. also, it was unanimously voted that I play guitar instead of bass in this band, so I’ve had to find my own replacement as well. i’ve never played guitar in a band before, but i’ve had a LOT of time to practice this past year.

COVID helped expedite the end of my band. Sucks. We were together for just over 15 years. But towards the end we were definitely starting to lose the magic. Then COVID came along and just speed up the inevitable demise. That's okay I suppose. More time to dedicate to my solo/duo project, but I'd be lying if I said I won't miss the band. It was my favorite way to spend an evening and my favorite thing to do on the weekends. C'est la vie.

Same. We put out a record in April but I think we were all pretty sick of working together at that point.

I've been shunted over to keyboards and rhythm guitar for many years now. I just quit one classic rock band I'd been with for four years. No new material, musicianship slipping, more complaining, too many people equalling low pay . . .

My dad and I just finished an album -- he wrote all the lyrics, I played most of the instruments and sang. I'm hoping to put together a group to play this stuff plus fun covers. So many people want to play something obscure and musician-y in a cover band. I just want people to dance and have fun (and buy copies of my CD!)

If I'm grinding it out in a bar band tho, I want to play bass again.

I'll have to get by with help from band mates, but more and more i feel like hanging it up. I was looking at a hiatus before pandemic.

I was pretty much done pre covid. I really love doing stuff in my home studio, so, I’ll continue on just like I’ve been doing. I may do a few acoustic solo gigs in a local coffee shop that just opened, I think that would be fun, and I don’t have to be concerned about other band members.

Looking forward to conquering the world! Rock and Roll all night and party every day! On a serious note though, hoping our drummer comes back from skipping town due to covid. If not, we’ll continue the Karaoke minus one rehearsals that have been going on since March.

I’m looking forward to once again wearing a stupid hat while playing some wrong notes and singing some wrong words in front of a room full of people who are drinking and talking loudly to each other and not even listening to the band. I miss that.

'Get back to where I was' by which is meant being active in whatever working projects I can find.
My 'big' band is somewhere between deep hibernation and gone. It's a Tribute and there's me, in the role of bass player and co-manager, and 'Willie' whomay or may not have lost interest in keeping the project going. Drummer quit, harp quit, keys never came up to speed, rhythm guitar just lost interest. So we're looking for a wholesale lineup change if we ever book another gig. Love to do it with a rotating pool of pro players, but it's hard getting people to put in the work, even tho it's really good money for not a lot of work...

Blues project still struggling to life. I've talked to a couple of country bands and rock bands but they're having issues getting their sh!t together. Haven't talked to the 'yacht rock' guy for about a year, so I donno what's going on there...

So - same as before? OK. Something new? OK. I'm better suited to some genres than others but I'll play it if I can.

I'm 70 and hope to get back to my gig schedule of desireable venues if covid-19 doesn't do me in first.

I am a jazzer...I have played with piano trio's in the past but it's difficult to find a drummer that knows the feel with that much space. I am going to be looking for a talented pianist who I can play along with (serving as foundation and rhythm). I have really enjoyed practicing along with solo piano stuff (Corea, Mehldau, Evans, and Monk) during the down period. I especially like that sound of piano and bass by themselves.

My Two bands (which share a bandleader) are all ready and willing to get back out there. We recently got a call from a favorite brewery booking for summer.

I play in two bands. The first one is morphing into a vocal/Motown horn Band from a 50s-60s DoWhop. The other is a Wedding/corporate event/standards dance band.

Both are chomping at the bit. Both bands have lost family members due to Covid-19 so it is doubtful we will be gigging until all are vaccinated, and who knows how long that will take.

We plan on recording another LP in the meantime.

We had one cancellation this month, so that leaves us with 11 shows this month, which is close to the 12 to 13 a month we were doing. Played a place in town this Sunday for the first time and they are booking us once a month now. Have been playing since the summer here in semi-rural area of Florida, but playing the west coast of Fla a bit and had a gig on the east coast.

I voted "new and different". Played outlaw country for seven or so years before Covid. Since I quit that band I swore of 5ers and have gone back to 4's strung BEAD. I feel renewed. Jammed with some guys playing 90's alternative and currently rehearsing with an Ameri-Billy style band. I'd like to settle into two bands, each playing once a month or so.
