Post something "funky"

In my book, Funk is something Huggy Bear (from the original Starkey & Hutch series, for the kids in the room) would listen to.

I had the very same Pleasure at the old Spectrum in Philly - on a bill with The Commodores IIRC - and Lord did they rock the joint! You're dead on about Nathaniel Philips, and everyone else were amazing, but that night belonged to guitarist Marlon McClain. They did about a twelve minute version of Joyous and the last 10 of it was one of the most incredible guitar solos I've ever seen, heard or felt!

I've been blessed to have seen many, many iconic acts in my youth, so I don't throw that kind of praise out there lightly. :thumbsup:

In the 70's there was a popular band called KC and the Sunshine Band. They had a big hit off their song, Get down tonight.



Down the road there was a band truly the spirit of funk. They got tired of what they called "watered down funk" and in a moment of mockery wrote this song in tribute to KC and his commercial hit. Suffice to say KC was very embarrassed when he ended up meeting The Brothers Johnson.

This is a valid point, Bryan but I think the OP is seeking people's opinions of what is and what's not, or at least what they consider as such. The real problem I see is the lack of a caveat to leave out the blatantly obvious stuff, much of what's been posted here - example; Ohio Players, Funkadelic, Bar-Kays, Graham Central Station, oh... and who am I missing? James Brown, right! :rollno:
