Post songs from your country

Hiya. Seeing as we've got quite an international crowd here, i'm curious as to what music is being made in your country, but never makes it internationally. Let's hear some artists/songs from your country/region. Doesn't matter if it's currently popular or in your native language.

(I'd post some from here to start things off, but i'm on a mobile phone. I'll see if i can post some when i'm home.)

Philippines here, and i'll be posting more than one video :)

ill be concentrating on 2 things... our native language (tagalog) and interesting basslines. i wish they wrote english subtitles for the songs since im sure these guys have really good songs people from the US would appreciate.

*Yosha - the bass player here is widely regarded as "victor wooten of the philippines." i dont know what his reaction to that is, but i have heard he is a very down to earth and humble guy (owns quite a bit of nice Foderas and Fbasses too). they are not signed to any label ATM:

Yosha - Tukso | Tower Sessions S01E05 - YouTube

*Updharma Down - they are one of the most unlikely mainstream bands since they play a mixture of ambient, triphop, and shoegaze. the female singer has an amazing voice and the band members have great taste in effects and not drowning out songs with techniques/chops. the song im posting is one of their most mainstream, the others are just too weird. check out the bassline in the chours, i gave up trying to figure it out lol:

UP DHARMA DOWN - OO - YouTube

*Urban Dub - one of the mainstream rock bands here. they got signed somewhere in between the popularity of Korn and Victory Records bands emerging out of the underground. this song is in english and is pretty straight forward:

Urbandub - First of Summer - YouTube

*Bamboo - they have long since disbanded ... they were really big here, and has a surplus of chops to boot. the song is in english. im not a big fan, but i find the playing tasteful:

Some of you guys might like my pal Glyn's world music radio show. Glyn's in touch with people all over the world and gets music from every country and in every genre you can name and dozens more that you couldn't even pronounce. :D

It's an online station and one of the best features is there's a chat facility where you can post messages to other listeners during the show. It gets very jolly at times!

Check it out, 7-9PM UK time (BST) on Wednesdays.

Glyn's email about the show tomorrow:

Dear Friends and Global Music Lovers!

Tomorrow’s WorldBeatUK is all set to be one of the most
wide-ranging and diverse sets to date with the likes of
Natacha Atlas’s global fusion, Latvian Folk,
Jamaico-Italiano Reggae Cumbiano, Russian Gypsy romance,
Finnish Klezmer Punk, Portuguese Fado and Malian Blues.

Add to that updated Kenyan traditional music from
the Nairobi City Ensemble,
the pan-European gypsy band The Other Europeans performing
a piece from the 'Klezmer/Lautari Suite No 2',
one of the world’s leading oud players
- Ara Dinkjian of Armenia -
one of the world’s leading trumpeters
- Hugh Masekela -
and the amazing Lebanese trumpeter,
Ibrahim Maalouf bringing the blues
to the Levant in his own particular style.

We also take in Brazil’s Baiana System, Valencia’s Supa Bassie,
Japan’s Shunsuke Kimura & Etsuro Ono, Kenya’s Olith Ratego and
Denmark’s anglophile folksters - the Basco Band.

Surely you must be convinced by now?

If not then expect the coolest soul-funk
from The Soul Sessions (Agogo Records),
the tub-thumping American folk of The Water Bucket Boys and
we relive the moment 40 years ago when
one of America’s most influential bluesmen, Howlin’ Wolf,
came over to England for 1971s “London Sessions”
to record with members of the Stones, the Beatles,
Stevie Winwood and others
and ended up teaching them all a lesson in the blues.
Priceless!

As ever, expect some surprises, loads of good music and a bit of banter!

Spread the word, tell yer mates, fling ‘em a link and join me
for yet another transglobal adventure!

7pm (UK time) - Don’t be late! I’ll be waiting . . .

WorldBeatUK on

Lotsa love

Glyn

Here's a few bands from my native Quebec - The Ville Emard Blues Band (the Quebec Tower of Power!), Harmonium (jazzy, acoustic guitar-driven rock), Beau Dommage (bluesy guitar rock). There bands were popular in my younger days back in the 70s, so I'm sure some younger members from La Belle Province can come up with more recent examples.
