After growing up playing someone else's cast offs, i vowed i would have a beautiful bookmatched, highly figured top with an eye popping dye job as soon as i could afford one. Not long after being able to afford such things i had a local guy top me a bass with a bookmatched quilted maple top that looked like big bubbles, then do a dark blue dye wash on it. It was a true eye burner, but it never left the house and barely left the case because i was so afraid of that first ding i wouldn’t use it.
While i no longer own that bass and have no plans to ever own anything really fancy, i do enjoy looking at them.
