Yes... that is a TWEED covered flying Vee with a leather scratchplate. Some history teacher lost a jacket in the construction of this monstrosity.

That is hilarious..love the googily eye.
Your band members must laugh everytime they see it.... laying down the groove on the duck bass.
I wouldn't call it ugly...unique would be a better description.

It was a very poor piece of wood. I'm sure anything even slightly more professional would put up more of a fight. I should add, I gave it a few coats of pine-flavoured woodstain to yellow it up too.

Updated pictures of my franken p-bass. Refinished Squier Affinity body with MIM Fender jazz neck. Seymore Duncan Performer pickups, high mass bridge, Fender flatwound strings and Grolsch straplocks.

Plan on adding a MM humbuckler pickup to the bridge with stacked volume/tone pots for both pickups.

My Stingray 5 is not outstandingly ugly, but definitely well used. Somewhere along the way the finish
began to kind of melt off of it.

Here's a '72 Jazz I bought with a little too much character.

That is by far one of the coolest basses ive ever seen. If that were mine it would be my main bass for sure!

EDIT: I CHANGED IT AGAIN!!!! : replaced the volume with switches (MUCH HAPPIER!!) took the contact paper off (EVEN HAPPIER!!!!) and put a hello kitty bandaid over the superfluous hole....(SUPER HAPPY BASS!)

this is what it looks like now:

this is "The Carpenter's Daughter". she was a fender Chinese-Squier, I sanded all the plastic off, hacked in a extra humbucker, amongst other things. My goal was to make a unique sounding, feeling, and looking guitar/bass. and also to make it look like it was made in shop class.(hence the name) (that's a masonite pickguard btw )It's tuned to D-A-E-B. and that's a banjo string on the end there. I drilled a hole to put in an extra tuning key for the banjo string.
( I won't go into the effects chain..)

I play alone with a drummer so each pickup has it's own out which goes to a Kb-60 and a mark VI (through 2 15's)

It was a case of I had it lying around and wanted a nice thumpin neck pickup in there, so I said the hell with it and threw the strat pickup in there. It sounds good for being a guitar pickup, but I usually blend in some P pickup as well to keep it from being too mud.

You can see I actually filed down the blade pieces to get even response across the strings as it was radiused for an old strat, this pickup is EXTREMELY sensitive to height and was a PITA to get it right, but at least now its a decent stand-in till I can get ahold of something like a rick neck pickup or a 70s telebass humbucker.

That's neat. Now how about blue pickguard with wavy line on top, it would look like the duck is swimming in water..?
