Franken Hagstrom! Ugly as sin! '60's Hagstrom neck, PUs and electronics on a P.O.S. '60's Japanese body.
I will SACRIFICE for $100 if anyone is interested.

this is what is looked like now:

this is "The Carpenter's Daughter". she was a fender chinese-squier, I sanded all the plastic off, hacked in a extra humbucker, amongst other things. My goal was to make a unique sounding, feeling, and looking guitar/bass. and also to make it look like it was made in shop class.(hence the name) (that's a masonite pickguard btw )It's tuned to D-A-E-B. and that's a banjo string on the end there. I drilled a hole to put in an extra tuning key for the banjo string.
( I won't go into the effects chain..)
I play alone with a drummer so each pickup has it's own out which goes to a Kb-60 and a mark VI (through 2 15's)
EDIT: I CHANGED IT AGAIN!!!! : replaced the volume with switches (MUCH HAPPIER!!) took the contact paper off (EVEN HAPPIER!!!!) and put a hello kitty bandaid over the superfluous hole....(SUPER HAPPY BASS!)

The fuax woodgrain sticker is a nice touch.
My last remaining 70s jazz bass. Its been around the block as you can see. (Ive sold all me fenders in favor of ibanez lawsuits, 67 mustang, 78 minty jazz bass and a 75 precision).
This was my bass teachers bass. From what he tells me he got it in the NYC area brand new when he was a cab driver living up there. He was a heavy jaco and jazz follower and followed him everywhere and jaco might of played this bass once at a nyc gig. Could be true, hes got tons of tapes he recorded himself of really random jaco bootlegs in nyc clubs back in the day so who knows?
The bass has no covers, lost the pickguard long time ago, had the screw holes filled with epoxy maybe, or something. Its got tons of checking in the finish, harline cracks around the neck in the finish (not the wood). Its got a badass II briidge from back in the day, heavily rusted but fully functional. Its got bartolini hi A jazz pups, and some no name very aged tuning keys (reverse style as well)

Here's my 'bass with character'. It has a bit more character than the picture shows.....
Unfortunately I don't have pics of this before I cleaned it up - everything was rusty & it had a badly-done black spray-can finish.
I had the body chemically stripped only to find that half the poly underneath was still there. I used an electric planer to take a 'skliff' off the surfaces and used a sanding 'paddle-wheel' on the rounded edges. Finished off with tung oil & wax:
The neck is definitely an old Antoria with a Gibson-style nut, but the body is a horizontal two-piece with a 6 bolt neckplate which is indicative of the Moridaira(?) factory in the 60s.
Put on a Wilkinson bridge which I had in the drawer, new pots & a tort plate. Original pickups & tuners are good. Rotosound nylon-wounds for thump. Plays & sounds good.

Actually if you put the original knobs back on it and get an aged white pickguard that bass would be quite beautiful. Too rich for my blood but beautiful none the less.

Ugly? NEVER! I had Lakland make me a one-of-a-kind 4-94, with paint that matched my Mustang, Screaming Yellow. Dan hated it. Called it "God-awful yellow" on the shipping receipt. I loved it! .... But then, I like fishing-lure basses. It's actually much brighter in person, looks sort of creme in the pic. Should never have sold it!

This has been one of my main basses for some years now. Late 60s P body/guard scored on eBay,
Musikraft neck. The pots & EMG Bass & Treble stack were in the body when I got it, as was all

righly named FrankenPlank... i see i havent been the only one to throw a guitar humber in the mix. i have lost count of how many changes it has gone under. these two are the most recent (i think...)
next up is the "washed ashore" defret that weighs the least of my basses, but sounds the heaviest
