That looks pretty awesome. You dont even notice the mistakes you were talking about and the nickel string tree is funny. That is a pretty good looking bass for your first time.
What does the "4" stand for on the head? Is that your signature?

I don't see any magnetic pickups, it must have a pee-izo in the bridge.This one is not my bass ... but someone has an excellent sense of humor!
how are the knobs set up? Is it volume for each or are they stacked vol/tone for each?'75 P
I've been told my Westone Quantum is ugly but I kinda like it.

Stacked vol/tone ring for each pup with a master kill switch. Passive Duncan QuarterPounder pups.
I bought it used and that's how it came. The flag kind of wraps around the sides and fades to black and the back is solid black. I'm assuming it was a custom airbrush because it's got a mild orange peel sort of finish. Looks pretty good, though, even up close.
And the matching strap (Dickies brand!) just cracks me up!
She was a P clone. I bought her for $50 and then went crazy with electrical tape. The pg was totally wrapped in yellow, and I zebra stripped the body. I dont have this beast anymore because she snapped in half while I was attempting a guitar swing[/QUOTE]

Thanks, man. Luckily, I've improved since then. If I had a closer shot of the neck pocket area, you'd see the iron-on veneer filling in the gaps. The chrome pickup ring covers the pickup rout oops. I'm going to play this one, so I don't care abut the looks, just the performance. It's going to look like crap quickly. Two coats of dark tung oil and two coats of wax won't protect it for long.
The "4" just got thrown on there for some kind of headstock decoration. It's a 4 string and I have a pile of water slide decals from old model kits laying around.

After I changed virtually everything on the bass, and added the LEDs, I still had less than $500 invested, and it really lights up a room, and sounds good to boot!

I am happy the Glo Bear was put out during his operation. Though I am sure he misses his colored limbs.
some of these look like victims of short years of heavy abuse
others look like many long years of loving use...

this thread is making me want to buy an american jazz bass, just so itll have this much character when im..hmm..45 years old. but i know i probobly cant hold onto one that long..

It can and has been properly intonated. The bridge was a one-off custom job from a machinist friend of mine, and I had to Dremel out the holes for the saddle screws to have a little more flexibility, but it is in fact correctly intonated now. The picture was taken shortly after I got it all assembled, and it is not fully set up - the saddle arrangement is much more "traditional" now.
