Post your cab refinish/different looking cabs!

I though this could be a fun thread, I've got a no name cab in need of refinishing, Likely to be redone in tweed at this stage. Just thought I would ask talkbass what they have done with there cabs in the same situation? Be it differently coloured tolex or different material entirely. Keen to see whats out there!:)

I didn't do any mods myself... but here is how I ordered my cab direct from Bag End

I bought a very tired, tweeter-missing Peavey 2x10 on the cheap. A new tweeter and 12 layers of PlastiDip and it looks quite allright (my unbiased opinion of course). The FEEL is totally different though, people are surprised when they touch the 3mm thick rubbery skin! Another advantage: any scratch repairs will become invisible.

Cheers,

John

Is that the oiled finish Bag End uses or a clear coat/urethane or something more of a varnish? I'm just about to sit down to build a pair of 115s to house some JBLs I have and am pretty sure I'm going to use the same box dimensions as the BE s15 B-D and finish them natural. I worry about the durability of a plain oiled finish.

The cab in the pic is a Karlson design 115 I used to have. It came basically trashed in torn, filthy grey rat fur and needed stripping and adhesive removed. Once the crap was off the wood, it took a little stain and urethane pretty nicely.

It's the standard 13 ply oiled Birch. I hit it with some Orange oil wax & feed stuff I got from Home Depot.

That Yammy head looks interesting; is it new? Or is it from the 80's? Thanks...

It's the one and only Yamaha class D bass amplifier,
the BBT 500H. It was launched in 2004. Don't know why it wasn't successful as the sound is sweet. Funny enough TC Electronic, well known and respected for their effects, has recently launched a class D bass amplifier (Rebelhed 450) with almost the same specs.

James that natural wood looks awesome! I'm not really worried who did the refinish, or if it was a custom order from the factory. Just want to see something beyond the black tolex that is the norm...
