SSL has always sounded "clean" yet "robust." I think a lot of those boards used Jensen transformers. I've always wanted to get a buss compressor at the very least, just not familiar with the outboard pre/EQ and which ones to look for.

A) Nice rack. Can't help but notice that you've got several of my favorite pieces of equipment in there.

B) Are those NS-10's above the console? Do they still see regular use?

I have no clue how to change the input impedance.
I leave that to those who made the pre and know how to do these things:)
I just play bass, like a preamp that sounds as open as possible( basically I don't want to hear the pre amp, If you know what I mean and am considering to have the DI out transformer taken out or exchanged for one that one hears even less-there is none in the line out signal path. If there is one out there that is) and am very happy with very few features and don't miss an EQ at this point.

at home : Bass -> Sans Amp -> M audio delta Car in my PC

at Band's DIY studio :

1.)Bass->AMP-> Mic-> chameleon preamp ->protools
OR
2.) Bass->chameleon pre amp->protools.

Both sound fantastic, but with option 2.) I can track while listening to the monitors and don't need headphones, which usually gets a better performance

Nice! So you use the Epi Valve Jr for bass? I've always loved the sound on guitar, but never tried it with my bass. Do you also use the Epi cab with it?

I use this in my home studio, Warwick Thumb NT4 (when I play with me fingers) or a Gibson SG EB-3 ( plectrum) -> Chandler Tubedriver -> TL Audio Fatman 1 -> Roland M-480 Linemixer -> Lexicon MPX-1 -> TC Electronic Finalizer 96K ->DAW (Emu 0404 PCI Interface).

It's not my favorite, but it's what I have...
I did have an Avalon U5, but somehow I missed a tube and sold it again.
Didn't regret it ....yet.

Most times I just use a Bass Pod -->M-Audio interface --> Reaper.

Sometimes I get my live rig apart, and use a Pre-Sonus Blue Tube into a Pre-Sonus comp---->M-Audio--->Reaper.


By the way, hello recording room.....it's been quite a while since I was into recording. But life now allows me time....so I am very much getting into it again. I gotta say, Most of the stuff today has me a bit overwhelmed....but I am getting it.....

Using what I have at my apartment, the best I could do is:

Lakland Skyline DJ4 > Carvin BX500 DI > Presonus Audiobox > Ampeg SVX (if it suits the track) > REAPER

Using all of my gear, I'd probably do something like this:

Lakland Skyline DJ4 > Ampeg SVT-VR DI > Presonus Audiobox > REAPER

I'd like to get a mic and blend a recording of the cab (Avatar SB112, probably) but I sold all of mine a few months ago. I'm not even sure how different the Ampeg's DI is from the Carvin's but I definitely like playing through that beast more than the Carvin. Those tubes are monstrous! :D

I have no complaints about my setup. It works. There are a few pieces that I'd like to add (mics, cabs, preamps, DIs, etc.) but I'll get by with what I have. The most important thing I could imagine right now is a decent mic for recording acoustic guitars. The line out from the pickup is fine but it certainly sounds so much nicer when the line out and mic tracks are blended. A good pair of monitors would also be very nice. I prefer wearing headphones while mixing but it always ends poorly.
