How 'bout this one?

It hasn't got any arms to speak of and yet it does have one very handy arm. Coincidentally, all the locals were up in arms about it. Fair enough, I suppose.

Then, there's this one.

It's a fair dinkum tank but it's also a bloody good fortress. Pretty nifty that Castle Saburac, for a tank.

The unfortunate truth about the Abrams is that power plant is extremely high maintenance. My father retired at Ft Bliss where the Abrams are stationed. He was an engineer and was involved in that program. My brother in law ( now ex ) worked on the sighting system for that platform as well at Ft Bliss. They are amazing machines, no doubt. But the fact remains the peers in the field have at least as good armor, at least as good targeting and in most cases, at the expense of flat out speed ( in a few cases ) more reliable power plants. I didn't want to be a homer and put the Paladin :) Although, it's considered a self propelled artillery we still felt like a tank with the biggest damn gun on the field.

interesting stuff, thanks :) I always thought they were pretty much top of the game, or until recently anyway.

so wait, am i reading this right, you were Paladin crew?? if so, more info pls! :ninja:

The Leopard 2 AV is probably my favorite of the older tanks.

A German/US collaboration ( although it must be said Germany put far more into the L2 AV and Porsche was involved as well :) ) The U.S. developed it's own version XM1 Chrysler and ended up going with it. The U.S. in side by side testing in Aberdeen proving grounds found both MBTs comparable but the XM1, at that time, had superior armor.

Germany took the L2 AV back to the German factory and did further refinement, ultimately making one of the most successful and prolific MBTs in the world with over 3,200 units shipped world wide.
