Indeed it was...5 hours of a gentle, tear-inducing needle massage. Most painful experience of my life, but I love it. What also sucked was having my arm propped over my head for that long.

Got my first today.My take on the bass-popular "dual bass clef" design. Been working and tweaking it for a little over a year now. Finally got it to the point where I was happy with it. I'm really happy with how it came out. Dale (the tattoo artist) damn near replicated the reference piece I gave him.

I'm scheduling for March to get the coloring done on my tat, but I'm starting to want more... trying to decide if I should extend it into a half sleeve or go with something new.

I am starting to think of how to do the rest of the leg, the next part is going to be a tree, but I just don't know how everything is going to fit together yet. I am getting his apprentice to design the next part and the apprentice will probably do some of the last work on it. Apprentice is a friend of mine, 16 and a year into his apprenticeship, drawings getting better daily and going to be famous someday.

I was going to get an Armadillo playing a 4-string on my back, of course now it would have to be a five-string Stingray, but either way it's on hold until I move out of my parents house, cause legally they can kick me.
lmao actually i have never played. i was born the year of the dragon and ever since i figured that out i was pretty into them.
some advice on extending to a half sleeve... thats what i did with that one: i think the tattoo flows better when it is all planned out from the beginning. if you can tell from any of the pics i posted of my dragon, the back side of my arm is almost all (purple :-/) sky. we pretty much had to do that to fill it in. there wasnt else much we could fit there. it probly couldve looked cooler if we just did an entire outline from the begining, but i'm mostly happy with it.

I'd never get a tat with obvious meaning to anyone who sees it. I'd want something more along the lines of a conversation piece:

I actually originally pitched the idea to my artist that I wanted something that could be built upon. Hopefully he'll be able to. I have a great amount of respect for his skill. If not, I've got another arm.
