This is getting ridiculous. All I need is a delay, flanger, and fuzz, yet it would seem that I'm stockpiling for a cold, cold winter. Still have two coming in, with plans to purchase another pretty soon. I've tried to put some up for sale, but I just can't! They are like children. Shiny and expensive, with wonderful subtleties lost on everyone but me.

Talk 770 vs Baracuda ... go!

Talk 770 vs Baracuda ... go!
Very different. The 770 is a lush chorus with a subtle whoosh on top. At first I thought "meh, whatever" but then tried it in a mix and it sounds great, never stands up and says Hello I Am A Flanger, which really works in a band situation. Opens up with dirt, but not terribly much, so definitely isn't over-the-top.

The Barracuda is my favourite flanger because it can be warm and also crazy without the stupid. I love the sweep of this one, and with delay it does this neato steel drum type sound which I use and abuse far too much. It is the more mechanical sounding of the two, although not in any artificial way. Sort of like a skinjob Cylon as opposed to one of the older models.
And after that Ekko 600 vs Deep Blue Delay.
Another one I thought "ehhhh..." with at first, but the Deep Blue Delay absolutely KILLS in a mix. Wow. It feels a little absurd to have a $300+ delay pedal in this day and age of Losing All, but it is pretty awesome. I was looking for something brighter than the 600 Dark but not so bright that it sounds too chirpy or completely digital. The delay time is shorter for the DBD, and overall the Ekko has better self-oscillation control, but with dirt run into it the Deep Blue is pretty amazing. Some complain that the Malekko Darks are too murky, but I like that, and the self-oscillation stays very bass-centric which I love. The DBD occupies that middle ground between mud and sword, so I think they compliment one another quite well.

Curious about all four.
As if it didn't already, my pedal collection has clearly surpassed my abilities at this point.

you are a brave man with the deep impact along with the g5. ive always owned one or the other, but couldent dare go for both at the same time..

do you find the differnces in their sounds to make it worthwhile having both of them?

Hi!

Yes, they are quite different synth bass units (IMHO, the best synth bass stompbox units).

I use the Korg G5 above all for heavy-fuzzy synth sounds with no or very little envelope (i.e.: Jamiroquai's "Planet Home" "Feel So Good" & "Revolution 1993", Muse's "Time Is Running Out", etc.), always with the BBE Sonic Stomp after it.

The Akai DeepImpact is for envelope-octaver synth sounds (i.e.: Jamiroquai's "Destitute Illusions" & "High Times", Gino Vannelli's "People Gotta Move", Earth,Wind&Fire's "Let's Groove", etc.) ;)

The short-term's not what it used to be eh? You were going on an on about that DQ no more than a few months ago... although Im sure it's easy to forget when you go through so many dirt pedals. :p (great collection you have there!)

Call me an idiot and spin me silly, I still have no idea what you are talking about... no DQ in that post.

* D*A*M Ram Head (muff)- Go-to recording fuzz.
* Wounded Paw Battering Ram - Splintering, versatile, grab and go.
* Sonic VI Champion Fuzz (B&M / Jumbo Tonebender Clone) - Lower Gain, Warm and Fat, muffish in flavor.
* BJFE Blueberry Bass OD - Big Tube Drive Sound, Itty-Bitty Box.
* Dredgetone Angler - Low but Nasal, cuts like a knife.
* Robot Factory TLSF (superfuzz clone)- Side 1: Blows stuff up. Side 2: Slices to pieces.
