"... what are your thoughts on the Biyang products? I've never seen anyone that has any of them, but they pop up on ebay searches quite often".

As I mentioned, I'm no FX expert... but I have always played with a hint of chorus (in the past, using whatever BOSS pedal I had -?-). The Biyang chorus is definitely not the most versatile chorus, it goes from subtle to over the top. What this pedal does have in its favour is a true-bypass and very little (almost none) 'tone suck'... and subtle chorus suits me fine.

Built like a tank by-the-way... just like the Korg D10 tuner...

I bought a Biyang OTD-100 from Ebay and made a small sample:

all guitars/bass through OTD-100 (Overdriven)-->Koch Pedaltone (clean)--tracker.

Like what it does to bass.. passive one, probably won't work with my active, as does not anything else.

I try to go by that, too. Yet, sometimes GAS takes the wheel and steers me into the 'I-need-more-than-one-heavy-gain-pedal' ditch.

Cash really isn't an issue, and I'd really like to have a simpler board (Honest!) but each one seems to bring something a little different to the table. The only one I've gotten rid of so far is the HAO Rust Ride because it had no tones of its own.

I'm finding myself in that same situation, too... I just bought a Reussenzehn Daniel D Bass Booster (tube overdrive/booster) and a custom fuzz is currently being built for me. I also just traded a Nobels DT-XN for a Washburn A-PH8 Phaser...

Now that I have all these pedals either on their way, or on my board I'm reconsidering the reality of their applications in a band setting. As hawt as it looks to have a suitcase filled with pedals (as mine soon shall be), a lunchbox filled to the brim has a slightly more 'realistic' look to it.

I'm stuck! Honestly, this is a bit of a dilemma. I also find myself gassing for a CatalinBread V8 Fuzz Tone and a Subdecay Noise Box, perhaps also a compressor. The thing is, though - the bands I'm in now don't really call for a Noise Box or a compressor.

This feeling of wasting my money, while feeling that I need to spend it is even more frustrating than being unable to concentrate for more than 3½ seconds because of my extreme GAS.

Ahhh, the horrors of life as a bassist.

(I'm sure 90% of people in the world would kill to replace their problems with this one, because of that I feel kinda bad at the same time... )

One last time, this is getting old, but one board, one bassist. Notice the Mk.4.23 Clean Boost in the top row, I'm in love with this pedal, 24dB of pure, clean, silent boost. It does as advertised. They seem to be around $240, but I got it brand new at GC for $138, must've been mismarked, but I snagged it in a hurry, great pedal.

I don't give a jack damn about how 'realistic' a pedalboard looks, if it does what I want then it's what I'm going to be using, regardless of whether it's a happy meal bag with a single pedal in it or a piano case overflowing with them. I hear the comment all the time with my current board, "Well, you're the one who has to carry it...." Well, my, my, my, how will I ever manage to drag this big ol' heavy 25 pound board into that building way over there? Oh, I am so lost. Heaven help me.

Give me a break. Sorry for the negativity but that is such a ridiculous argument for not having a big board. Like these things weigh a ton. Sheesh. My 2x10 cab weighs a lot more than my pedalboard and I don't see anyone whining about carrying those around.

The NoiseBox will be my next pedal, but I wasn't really thrilled with the V8 at all. What about it do you like?

And true, the NoiseBox has little use in a band setting, though TaySte uses his for song transitions or while other band members are changing up equipment. I think that's what he said anyway.....For that purpose I can see its usefulness.

As I have a V8, but no real experience with other fuzz and/or drive pedals, I must ask: what is it you didn't like about it?

Me, I like the fact that it's such a loud and obnoxius pedal, and I like the way it sounds when it goes into oscillation - and that it's semi-possible to control the pitch of the oscillation from the guitar. However, I don't think I'll ever be able to use those features - or a fuzz/drive pedal of any kind - in the band I play with now. So in that respect, it's a somewhat useless pedal. Not that I mind uselessness, as long as it's fun...

I'm gonna' prove you wrong there, Mr. Rusty. I'll be damned if I can't find a use for it in the band context. What I liked about the clips I heard was the fact that the processed signal is harmonicaly related to the orginal. I found it very musical, as opposed to being simply for "noise."

First, to Chris V., I just re-read my previous post and it sounds as if my negative comments are aimed at you. They're not, but rather a general rant about the "You have to carry it" comment I hear so often. Your post just sparked a flame and set me off is all. Nothing about what you said raised my ire.

It's hard to say....It just doesn't "do it" for me. Up until yesterday I'd only made my judgment based on samples but yesterday I found a used one in a local shop for a really good price and almost picked it up until I plugged it in and played through it for a few minutes. It was....okay. I've got louder, more obnoxious fuzzes and smoother, less obnoxious ones too. Like I said, it's okay, especially if you're strapped for board space. Just not for me. I didn't really get to play around with the oscillation though, that may have swayed me a bit. Hadn't thought of it then.

May well be Mr. Pickles! May well be. Truth be told, I like noise so maybe all I was listening for was the noise. I don't have one yet but when I get it I'll see how musical I can make it. I'd love to hear your experiences once you have yours in hand.

Fair enough! It certainly isn't a pedal for everyone, and it probably isn't the last fuzz I'll ever feel a strange need for.

True enough! I don't think there's a single pedal out there that can claim to be "a pedal for everyone". That's what makes music so interesting.
