I've never really used it...sounds useable however. I like my pedals set to one setting so there is no fiddling with them during the gig...
It's a fantastic pedal, isn't it? Such a great range of sounds.

Well, since we're doing "current state" pics, here's the current state of my Gen_2 board:
There will be an EB VP Jr 25K on either side of the 105Q, the front row of pedals will be flush with the volume/wah pedal, then each of the rows going back will be raised 1.75" above the row in front of it with the back two being angled forward 12 degrees.

It really is a shame that the key isn't used as a knob. I may have to try to put a key on something that I like to tweak mid-song.
I really love the audacity in the design of your pedalboards. I can't wait to see the final product.

Poor thing is clamped again, this time getting the aluminum binding put on the base. Gen_2 is going to be painted a semi-gloss black rather than stained though....The aluminum will be raw, not painted.

How do you like the mxr bass fuzz? Are there any other pedals it sounds similar to? Is it one of those pedals that makes you think to yourself, "this would a great pedal if only..."? Any chance you can post clips?
Recording is my next goal....Need to pick up some gear in the near future.
How do I like it? I really like it a lot. It's not a noisy pedal at all, it's lighter than most MXRs (I'm guessing it's an aluminum case rather than pot metal), and it seems to have a voice of its own, especially with the depth switch on. Take into consideration though that I've only been playing bass since January (played guitar for years before an accident left me unable to bend my middle finger on my right hand) so I don't have a whole lot of experience with some other pedals.
I played through a Big Muff at one of the local shops, and while I wasn't using any of my own gear, the Muff just didn't seem up to par with the El Grande....It sucked a lot of the low end out, or so it seemed. The El Grande doesn't have that problem.
Finding a tone I liked was really easy, took only a few seconds to dial it in, unlike the Blowtorch I have. It's not as "buzz-saw-y" as the Blowtorch, but it still gets pretty grindy sounding.
The Polish Love pedals I have, which I prefer to use as overdrives, are seemingly based on the Red Llama, which is based on Anderton's Tube Sound Fuzz. The El Grande has much of the same grind as those do but the bottom end is more prominent. The amount of gain it kicks out is pretty impressive too, as is the gain in the Polish Loves.

I think it is a great pedal as it is. The Blowtorch offers more in the way of sonic possibilities but the El Grande goes below and gets a bit heavier than what the BT can offer. The Big Muff just didn't cut it for me and given the choice I'd take the MXR any day, though I do like EHX pedals.
But my personal preference is to have a palette of options available rather than a one-size-fits all sort of thing. I like the El Grande in combination with the Blowtorch, just as I like having several different options for my overdrives. If you're looking for someone to say "This is THE fuzz pedal to have!", I'm not that guy. It might be for some people, but others will like a MessDrive Hybrid more.
I would recommend that you go play through one if you can. It's a really nice piece of equipment in my opinion and I'm glad to see manufacturers finally taking an interest in the bassists of the world.

Yeah, I'm happy too. Wish I had more time to work on it but I'll take what I can get. Does anyone have an actual weight on the PT Pro?
The base is completely done now, fully bound in aluminum extrusion and stiff as a......Well, stiff as a board. No flex to it at all, though I'm not about to try and jump up and down on it. Yet.
Just compared the weight of this to the PedalTrain Pro and it seems to be about the same weight. The PT Pro shows a shipping weight of 7 pounds, this one (base only, which is basically all the PT Pro is) weighs 5 pounds, 3 ounces. If I were to box it up it would probably be about 7 pounds. This one sits flat though, rather than angled, but it's 20" deep rather than the PT's 16" so it's 25% larger.
For those of you who build your own pedalboard:
what type of fabric would you recommend to cover the board with? Also, what type of adhesive to attach it to the wood? I know some fabrics let some types of glue seep through.

I used a new polyurethane glue on marine grade vinyl on mine! Works great!

I don't suppose you could tell me what you're using to carry that? I was considering build my own board for something to do and I'd need a way to cover and carry it.
Oreo, were you wanting to cover it in something that velcro would stick to or some other material? The last pedalboard I built when playing guitar had a fabric similar to the loop part of velcro and I bought it at a car stereo place and then found the same thing at the local Walmart for a lot less. At walmart, it's in the automotive section and I think it's sold as replacement carpet or something like that.
As far as adhesives, I used 3M Super 77. It's a spray adhesive and dries pretty fast.
With that board I had a cable trunk and it went in there. With my next board (up there a little ways) I'm going to build an ATA type case for it as soon as it's done. You can buy all the parts online pretty cheap.

'Welcome. You'll probably want to have a good heavy duty stapler handy as well to tack the ends of the fabric down while it's drying and so that it doesn't pull loose later.
