Why do you say that about vex? Had a bad experience or something?

I think he has a strong personality and strong opinions but I really respect the guy.

Oh yeah I always read his posts in Harmony Central. He tends to resort to name calling when faced with good arguments.

But his pedals are great.

Doesn't everybody over there do that?!?! :confused: Blame the forum, not Zach! :) I hate that place, it affects people in ways they often don't pick up on. Why anybody bothers with that hell hole is totally beyond me. All those moronic OT posts, know-it-all wankers, anger towards strangers that beggars belief, and most often totally misinformed and grossly inaccurate information.

Trust me, on a more tempered forum he is a polite, well informed man with a unique insight on the boutique pedal industry.

I'm a regular at HC Effects forum and he does post there a lot.

He's very. ..mmmm... protective of his ideas and takes pride in what he does so he may not be able to handle crticism all that great.

Good guy and good sense of humor otherwise.

And great pedal builder too. Kinda has that mad scientist thing going for him.

The problem with that forum is that any 14 year old who has heard of Robert Keeley and gets the MF catalog thinks he's an expert and starts giving advice like he's an electrical engenieer. And 9/10 times they know jack.

The OT threads can be fun but are out of control.

Yes, it is a niche group and they are hard on new members asking "basic" questions. They are not nearly as supportive/willing to help as the TB forums.

OT threads belong in OT forums. The ratio of off topic to on topic is way out of check and it degrades the usefullness, useability and integrity of the forum. Any new visitor sees a large number of crap OT posts and immediately gets the impression that the place is full of immature loosers... hmmm! :eyebrow:

Plus, you've gotta read each topic title to see if you're interested or not, so having to trawl through all those OT thread titles is a frustrating process.

The main issue is the attitude of the residents. It's cliched now, but the old "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything" is totally lost on everyone over there. They seem addicted to displaying their 'superiority' by insulting complete strangers. Real impressive guys, and what an endorsement on your character!

There's only one thing worse, and that's electronics groups on Usenet. I used to hang out at both sci.electronics and HC, but I discovered that it was affecting my attitude towards life. I was grumpy, irritable, angry and bitter after posting there (ask my girlfriend!) - all because of some storm in a tea cup bulls#@t at the forums.

Here is a photo of my pedal board:

Tentative signal path:
13-pin GK from bass -> Roland GR-20 -> EB volume -> Boss RC-20XL -> amp (Eden WT-800)
In the effects loop of the GR-20:
DIY Great Cheddar distortion (the red one)-> DIY MXR envelope filter (the blue one)

I hope to add a compressor to the two DIY pedals in the FX loop, that's the only part that isn't quite settled yet.

The big green box is the power supply (also DIY).

Yes, the case is DIY. Was a heck of a lot of work! A little more info and photos on my web site here.

Powersupply? Well, it can be difficult to get it right. Really depends on how skilled you are with electronics. I had some trouble with hum from the Boss RC-20XL at first, even though I thought I had sufficient PSU bypass caps for it.... works well now, though. It (the PSU) has four independent regulated 9VDC outputs and one 12VAC output for the Roland GR-20. The 9V outputs can give up to approximately 400mA current each, and the 12VAC should be able to give 670mA or so.

There is also a web page (under construction) about the Great Cheddar DIY distortion here. I'll add some description some day, as well as sound samples. Also I'll probably get up a page with photos of the blue one... someday.
I've got plans now to build a compressor pedal too, using the SSM2166. We'll see how it goes.

I have also Deep impact that I haven`t used for a while. Earth quake bass wah that I currently use is also very synth like. Mean and evil thing.

BTW I just bought Line6 delay modeller DL4 and I guess it will replace the headrush. I need more delays with expression pedal than Akai`s great quality looping at the moment. And EHX Pulsar will be my next task. Yam!
