A few changes for 2010...

The Xotic X-Blender has totally changed how I can use certain pedals! I'm using in it in the 'aux' loop of my primary (middle) board to blend-in pedals like the phaser, chorus, Bass-Drive and Sub-Lime. The other pedals on the far right board (delay, BBM, ODB-3, LPB-1) sound fine without the active blend of the Xotic unit. (It's nice how the X-Blender lets you choose either mode at the stomp of a switch!) The Fulltone now sounds 'bassier' & is far more flexible with the X-Blender, plus I can use my foot to gradually add-in more dirt in real time in a performance! Same with the Sub-Lime (although it has plenty of bottom on it's own)- I can set it for a very aggressive fuzz & slowly bring in how much "anger" I need on the fly! Awesome! The phaser definitely benefits from having some clean single blended in as well as a touch of bass eq boost- the chorus too. The Bass Big Muff sounds great straight up (using its own blending), as does the Delay and ODB-3.

Other changes include the ordering of effects on my primary board. I put the compressor after the octave, BB overdrive and Mu-Tron filter. I'm not a "comp on always" guy, but I definitely appreciate the filter>comp sound- I should have done it that way years ago! :scowl:

Basically, signal flow is:
Instrument>Primary Board>Secondary Board in aux loop off of Primary>MURFBoard>Amp/DI

So, my 'clean' tone is:
Instrument>Barge GLZ-1 Buffer (always on, dedicated buffer as well as volume leveler for different instruments)>EBS Valve Drive (set for just a touch of dynamic grit)>RC Booster (used primarily for an eq/gain change for switching to pick playing)>Loop Master System>Visual Volume>...

The Loop Master selects additional effects:
MXR Bass Octave Deluxe>Xotic BB Preamp overdrive>MuTron III+>EBS MultiComp>Aux Loop (connected to the pedals on the secondary board which are all in the Xotic X-Blender's loop)

Secondary Board:
Xotic X-blender (everything in it's loop, but only certain pedals used in each of it's modes...)>Fulltone Bass-Drive>Boss ODB-3>EHX BBM>Fulltone Choralflange>EHX Small Stone>Boss DD-5>Fender Sub-Lime>back to Primary Board LoopMaster return...

MURFBoard:
Goes after the volume pedal on primary board (so that reverb trails are post-volume pedal), and right before amp/di...
Moog BassMURF>AboveGroundFX The Venue Reverb>Amp

Other details:
Tap tempo for DD-5 Delay; Blend, Envelope and Tempo expression pedals for MURF; Primary Board powered by T-Rex Fueltank and Mu-TronIII+ ac adapter (under board); Secondary Board powered by Gator G-Bus 8 (under board); MURFBoard powered by Moog supply and Fulltone PSA-1; Boss TU-15 tuner isolated off LoopMaster

Right on! I tend to switch techniques fairly often (mid-song sometimes!). Being able to just stomp once & have my 'plectrum' tone equal in volume & just as bass-rich as my finger tone is great! The pick "attack" and vibe is still there, but I sound less like Chris Squire all of the sudden! :D

ya know everyone says the sub-lime is so big. Granted it could be in a smaller housing (saw a guts pic somewhere), but its no bigger then an expression or volume pedal. Someone else might have designed a fuzz pedal with an 'optional expression pedal' to control the fuzz level. Then where would you be? At least with the sub-lime its all integrated.

Still, three boards and yours is sitting on the floor.

That's a great point! It is big & heavy... however, given the tone- I'll be making changes to that secondary board very soon!

I'm actually packing stuff up, right now, for a month of sessions in CA, the Sub-Lime is going despite the bulk!

Some incredible boards going on here, I've got a dream board I'm thinking:

Fuel Tank Jr. powering:
Korg Pitch Black
EHX Engima
EBS Multicomp
Tech 21 VT
Expression Pedal (could use tips for this, looking to use it as an expression pedal for the enigma, but also for general purpose volume pedal.)

I have a question though, as far as power supplies. I notice some pedals list AC power. Does this mean they could not be powered by something like the fuel tank / Voodoo?

I also noticed that Voodoo now has an AC power supply as well. So, whats the best way to power these things?

My board arrived today (after too much hassle with the courier...), and I have been playing with some layouts. This is what I'm going with at the moment, although things might change once I've got some power and patch leads in there, which won't be for a couple of weeks probably. Also, I have plans to add and change some pedals already, so it definitely won't stay this way forever.

I know that there are gaps at the moment, but don't worry - I know what is going to fill them... :D

The gap to the right of the OC-2 will have an LS-2, also positioned sideways so that I can step on both of them at the same time. The gap above the Ashdown filter will have an expression pedal for the FM-4. The gap above the FM-4 will have power supplies/multi ways etc. The gap above the tuner will have a Biyang Analogue Delay, which is on it's way to me right now.

Signal chain (when complete):

Bass > OC-2 > LS-2 input > Biyang delay > Fender PT-100 tuner > Amp

LS-2 Loop A send > Line 6 FM-4 [with expression pedal] > Ashdown Bass Envelope Filter > Marshall Jackhammer > Boss BF-2 > LS-2 Loop A return

LS-2 Loop B send >Digitech BSW > EHX Micro Q-Tron > Boss NS-2 [NS-2 send > Boss DS-1 > EHX LBM > Boss PH-3 > NS-2 return] > EHX SMMwH > LS-2 Loop B return



The LS-2 will be set to A+B Mix mode to give me two parallel signal chains. This will mean that I can turn on all of the pedals that I will need in advance, then hit the LS-2 to turn everything on at once.

The Jackhammer will probably be replaced by a Turbo Rat at some point, and I'm waiting on the soundclips, but I think that a Source Audio Classic Distortion Pro might make it on there, which will probably involve some sacrifices. I also want to add another octaver for a special application, but I will explain further on that one when I've obtained it.



EDIT: Just realised one change to that already... :D

When the Biyang delay arrives, I will move the SMMwH to where the NS-2 is, put the Biyang where the SMMwH is, and put the NS-2 above the PH-3 and DS-1.

Currently working on this one

Planning to do paintjob this weekend, velcro should arrive next week. Still have to make it a little bit angled, and some kind of lower floor for power.

Empty gaps are for EH Bass Microsynth (should arrive next week too), Moog Ring modulator (in fact, Ring Thing stops me from grabbing one...), RV-5, Subdecay Quasar and EH Deluxe Memory Boy in place of DOD FX-72, not using flanger that much anyway. Oh, and volume pedal!
Green Bespeco pedal was Weeper - volume/wah, but it has missing bottom plate (which caused it to hum), so i will convert it into expression pedal.
Crate footswich will be converted into 3 channel true-bypass looper, and box to the left is tap tempo for DD-7 and will have one more switch added to is with Moog too.

Planned chain (actually places in chain for certain pedals, as i said above, haven`t considered few things yet):
GEB-7 - LS-2 in A+B mix mode - Amp
Loop A: Pitchblack, also used as clean channel mute switch.
Loob B: MXR Blowtorch - BSW - EH BMS - Prometheus - TurboRat - BBM - Volume pedal - 3 Channel TBP switch IN
Channel #1: Digitech Whammy
Channel #2: Moog Ring Modulator
Channel #3: DOD FX-72 - Mode 7 pedal - CEB-3 - DMB - Quasar - RV-5
3 Channel TBP switch OUT - DD-7 - Back to LS-2 - Amp
