Which pups above are Sabre (old version / new version) vs G&L? THanks!

pic one is a larger stingray replacement pickup and a later EB sabre pickup.

Pic 2 is 2 G&L pickups from an L2000 with the covers off.

Pic 3 is a rusty pre eb sabre pickup whose case was really bad condition. I replaced that beat up (and now torn apart) cover with the bottom cover in the first pic.

sorry I dont have pics of a sabre pickup and G&L together and those are old pics... everything you see in the pics is installed in something now.

No, it's a little closer to the bridge. I was never able to get a convincing Stingray tone from my Sabre.

Actually, they were poplar.

It is when it's unfinished. I thought they would have been ash. Oh well, still my favourite MM's prior to the Bongo!

No, it’s actually very similar structurally to Alder. The biggest drawback is the green –gray streaks from mineral deposits.

I received my 79 stripped. Based on the paint in the control cavity I concluded it was originally black. Played it that way for a few years, then sent it to Mr. Dolan for a spiffy sunburst.

I doubt most of them were poplar in the preEB days. I've picked up many solid finish basses before, and the hefty density and weight could only be northern ash.

Now, EBMM did use quite a bit of popar in those days.

Unfortunatley there are not many Sabre owners, that haven't spoken up, around I fear.
