This is mostly upright bass centered, with plenty of other instruments too.
Recorded and performed by myself over a number of years. I mostly used pretty modest computer based recording gear (Studio Projects B1 mic, Rode NT5 mics, preamps built into an M-Audio interface). As time went on I have slowly added better recording stuff but the vast majority of this audio is recorded on my early gear.
It's basically "composed improvisation". I'd record lots of improvisations on any instrument, then I'd edit those down to the interesting stuff. Then I'd start overdubbing improvisations upon the edited material and do another round of editing. As this process repeated the layers became more and more composed instead of improvised, and improvisation became composed via the editing process.

Wrote the stuff and played all drums & percussions (I think that was 23 tracks), bass and some guitar. A friend played some more guitar, and another friend sang.

Well all my songs are done this way since I play/compose everything (jack of all trades, master of none). I always start by writing the song's full bassline though being foremost a bassist... then I come up with the rest usually through a lot of trial and error. They're always either one guitar track, bass, drums and keys or two guitars, bass and drums. I avoid using more than one guitar when there's keys because I don't want to have to have more than 4 musicians to play this live when (if) the time comes... voice will be added later but that's my girlfriend's job (she's ichigo, i'm milk, aww how sickeningly not cute). I'm a new wave post punk 80's pop guy. Influences are the cure, New Order, Altered Images, Psychedelic furs, etc. (btw of course none of the art used is mine, well except for the text I added to it, but until im making money off these (yeah right) who gives a S. No one I suspect)
(guitar tone is poopie a bit in this one, I have very limited equipment or "producing" skills but this one was done before I got a bit better and used guitar effects softwares, this was garageband's fx)
