FWIW, Every recording I have of Rabbath performing this piece is different. It definitely has some improvisation in it and I'm inclined to believe the manuscript is more of a rough guide.

True, although the pitches and basic structure do not change. The introduction is always completely improvised (this is before the notated portion of the piece), and the accent patterns will vary. He also performs it very differently than he did when "Live Around the World" was recorded in the 70's. The piece as he performs it today is very clearly notated in the upcoming volume.
