Kinda thinking out loud here:

I wanting to get a power amp for my Ampeg 160
The cab says its rated at 600w @4 ohms RMS and 1200w Program
I was looking at the Crown XLS 1000 power amp
its rated at 1100W @4 ohms when bridge mono
I assume because its crown that is an RMS rating, but because it doesn't specifically say it was...

I am concerned about killing my cab but that's the lowest rating they have in that series...

Anyone with more power amp experience have any thoughts?

The Crown may be a bit much. With my 610HLF I was more than loud enough with just a basic GK800RB head. I know that's not a "power amp", but it was loud enough on all kinds of situations. You may blow your speakers with what you want to do.

I dont think that cab can do much with more than 400-500 or so watts. Anything above that is just head room, your cab will fart out.

Two good things about the crown

1: it has a volume knob
2: it has a user definable sub rumble filter which you can put on the low end to stop it from flapping the speakers at high volume. 50Hz should be good.

You could cook the speakers instead of flapping them to death. If you ever notice you don't seem to as loud as you thought you should be even though it was fine when you last turned it up, that's your speakers cooking. Time for a break and turn it back down.

Plenty of power with one side of the amp anyway, no need to bridge it. No, there is no such thing as underpowering.
