Power amp question

whats a good/not brutally expensive power amp that will push my ampeg 810 monobridged at 4 ohms? ive been researching but i still have no clue. 810's peak is 1600w, rms 800w. i dont want to under/over power, i just want it to be enough and with a good response and zero noise.

im currently using a sansamp rbi for the pre into an aphex 204 enhancer, powering the 810 with a crappy old lantek 900 poweramp in stereo/split mode. no speakon. the sound/power could be a lot better.

any tips or suggestions would be great. thanks guys.

Carvin is really good bang per buck new. A used QSC, Crest, or Crown would also do you right. Most modern power amps can be bridged at 4 ohms; not all, of course, but it's usually not something you have to worry about or look hard for.

IMHO a used Crest would be your best bet....they are extremely clean and reliable and if you set the knobs right they are powerful, but like I said the input knobs don't work like a qsc you can't just crank them all the way up you have to leave them about 1 o'clock to get the best tone....this of course is IME running sound and using one to power my rig post avalon.....although the new qsc plx models are really cool and sound really great as well plus they are light

i recently got a crown xti2000 for my bass amp 'rack rig' and its great. fairly lightweight at 17lbs, 2000 watts (bridged @4 ohms or 800 watts/ch @ 4ohms), & has built-in adjustable limiters and filters if you ever need to use them. i paid $399 shipped for it, brand new in the factory sealed box.

or i can recommend a crown xti1000. i bought two xti1000's for my PA, and one of them would also power your 8x10 well. they're 1400watts @4ohms (bridged). i paid $359 for those.

I had a whole set of Crown XTI's for our PA so that our sound guy at the time could use his drive rack and that he could hook his MAC up to it....the problem was they still have the crown hum....kind of like the old Peavey CS hum....just my experience and my 2 cents but whats that worth?

These XTI's sound like such a great deal.
Are they the typical Crown bullet proof design, or are these more for the DJ crowd and not as Pro Sound friendly?

thanks for the help guys.
im gonna check out these xti's, they sound like my price range if i can get one used.

ive also been looking into a behringer ep2000 for $299 off musiciansfriend, any thoughts on these? im thinking the accelerated transient response technology would be good for low-end bass...? but probably meant for kick drums and overall band mixes.

Snake oil/mumbo-jumbo. Ignore it. Doesn't mean it's a bad amp, though you won't find much love here for that stuff.

i've actually heard that the behringer eurpower amps are prretty reliable. that said, their EP2000 and the Crown xti1000 are rated at about the same power, and the crown has alot more features (DSP), not to mention much better resale value,(let alone prestige). the Crown is also smaller (depth-wise) and half the weight at 17 lbs (as opposed to the EP2000's 34lbs).

you can get a new xti1000 for $309 (including shipping) if you look around on ebay. i paid $309 for one of mine and $359 for one shipped overnite (NY to SoCal).
