Powers Supply for Pedaltrain Nano+

This is probably a rather stupid question, but like I said I’m very new to the pedal world...
What’s the difference between/advantages of isolated outputs and non isolated?

Isolated means that each output has its own transformer and they don't share the same ground reference. The advantage is that this helps eliminate noise, the disadvantage is cost and weight.

You may or may not need isolated outputs. If your pedals have a similar impedance, you most likely won't need it. I used to have a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 for my large pedalboard, then I realized all my pedals were similar (all analog, low current draw). I daisy chained them with a one-spot and noticed no increase in noise, so that's what I use now. However, I know for a fact that if I introduced a totally different pedal in the mix, noise would be awful with this same setup (I once tried to insert a Source Audio programmable EQ pedal - Digital, higher current draw than my other pedals, and the noise was terrible). So it really depends on what pedals you plan to use.

In my humble opinion, the Nano+ is too small for a dedicated power brick because that board is tiny and space for your pedals is limited. Personally, I use a Onespot Power supply with my Nano board and have never had an issue. Good luck with everything!

I have two CS6 power supplies, one under a nano and one under a metro 24. Just make sure you drill the holes properly - make sure you have the template going in the proper direction.

Another Nano+ Cioks DC-5 user here. Fits really nice and is just enough for the Nano+. I used a OneSpot for years before the Cioks with no problem.

I would say a DC-5 would be about perfect.
If you want more outlets and room to grow, then the DC-7.

I have the Eventide version of the DC-7. Nice, and a bit less $$.

I have the Pedaltrain Nano, not the Plus. I use a Fuel Tank Jr under my board. I had to cut out some of the board to allow the pedal power cables to access the power supply - please don't judge my metal-cutting expertise. I just recently ordered and installed extended feet (LIFTKIT02) so that the pedal board wasn't resting on the power supply underneath.

There should be less noise and buzz from a PS with isolated outputs. It's worth the extra money to buy one of these instead of non isolated.

You could go the really inexpensive way and buy a one spot and use a daisy chain for your pedals. I did that for a few years, but now have a True Tone CS12 and I have noticed a big difference using this.

I'm in the making of a small pedalboard for gigging, but I could use some feedback/experiences on the chosen pedals and especially power supply.

I was thinking of getting the Pedaltrain Nano+, and equipping it with the following pedals.

Boss TU-3 tuner.
Empress Parametric EQ.
MXR compressor.
Darkglass Alpha Omicron Distortion.
MXR octaver.

I've been playing bass for 7-8 years now, but the world of pedals is rather new to me. If any of you have experience with these pedals please feel free to write it below.
Also, as I'm not going to get all the pedals at once, what should the order be? Tuner, EQ and compressor first?
And then the power supply. I don't want to spend more money than necessary, but I still want a solid supply with 5 outputs or more. I've looked at the T-Rex Fuel Tank jr., but I don't know if there are better options?

I use the cioks dc5. It fits under all the smaller Pedaltrain boards, even the smaller non-plus nano. Here’s a pic of it mounted under a nano+

Has 5 outs, two of which can Power my high drawing shure glxd wireless and digital delay pedals. The pedals you listed are all actually low draw pedals so it’ll power all those pedals without even breaking a sweat.

I actually prefer the mini tc electronic tuner over the boss. Tuners are tuners I guess. The boss tuners are legendary for being virtually indestructible but the tc electronic mini takes up less space on the board and it’s easier for me to see.

I think you’ll find as you get more into pedals That octave, overdrive, and fuzz are the effects that people get super particular about. People like different sounds and often times a pedal might sound great with one bass and bad with another.

I had the alpha omega which is the next bigger version of the alpha omicron. I ended up selling it after getting the darkglass Microtubes x. I just like the X more for the style of music I’m playing. The A/O does sound great though and if I ever built a bigger board and had multiple drive pedals On it I’d get the alpha omicron.

you didn’t specify which mxr octave. The newest is the vintage bass octave which is a clone of the boss OC-2. Haven’t tried it yet but it sounds impressive in the demos I’ve watched. I have the mxr bass octave deluxe. I think it’s a good all around octave.

This is the power supply I have and I swear by it, I got my entire pedalboard of 17 pedals running out of it and I still have enough juice for a couple more. They make smaller versions as well

Yeah, that’s what I managed to find as well, but the price for a new one is around 160€ (180$) here, so a 60€ (70$) price drop is all right, isn’t it?

I've done this too, but some pedals don't work well with daisy chained power supplies. Line 6 pedals, I'm looking at you. Run a G70 and any other pedal and you get noise. Same thing happened with The M5. But I usually have a OneSpot in my goodies bag in case of a power supply failure

Don't know, google around on whatever is your best place to find used pedals. Looking on Talkbass wont help you much since there are so few Euro sales. The key I've find with used pedals is not to pay too much as its pretty common to buy and sell different ones until you find the ones that best meet your needs. I wonder if TC would be a good option for you, since they are EU origin? I use their Subnup octaver and like it.

Seeing the underside of the Nano+, I should have opted for this instead of the ordinary Nano! I had to cut away at some of the hollow length-wise tubing in order to access the 9v output ports of my FuelTank Jr.

Oh well, c'est la vie...

I’ve got an MXR DC Brick under my Nano+ and it fits just fine Velcro included. It’s not the isolated power supply, so we might be talking about different units.

Interesting, mine won’t fit. Just not enough clearance. Maybe the dimensions of the DC brick changed over the years?

Here’s how I have mine fit. There’s not a whole lot of clearance but it’s never caused an issue. (Unfortunately it spent some time in a humid environment and started to corrode without me realizing it.)
