On occasion (and on the weekends) I'll put a favorite DVD on, turn the TV volume down to where I can barely hear it and will practice. It's not distracting at all and the fact is I hardly pay any attention to the movie that's playing. Sometimes I'll start a movie, I'll really be into what I'm practicing and then I'll look up and see the credits rolling by!
Can't explain it, but I find it comforting. I'm home, I'm comfortable, I got my bass....it's good.

Repetitive motion exercises, yes, I will practice them while watching a football or baseball game on TV.
Now, when it gets to the more sonic/musical aspects, no distractions for me, thank you.
I'll raise another glass to that. Eh, make that a quart.
It doesn't distract me, and it's not wasting my time. Just something to look at.
You mean to say you don't laser it into your eyeballs themselves? Gosh, some people have such bad technique! Also what is the best sensory deprivation chamber for metal?Definitely not. I only practice while suspended in a sensory deprivation chamber that beams the pure DI'd tone of my bass to the bones of my skull so I can focus like a real musician on my education. Also I tattoo sheet music on the inside of my eyelids.
Works great when you turn off the TV.
