Practice on Very Rainy Days - Slight Rant

If this is just a fun band taking a few gigs here and there and someone called me and said they don't feel comfortable driving in the rain? what do I say "hey you lazy @^&% get over here or you are out? and the drummer should keep his mouth shut since it's at his house. If I know my bass parts and I'm on time to the gigs what's your issue? I know plenty of really good local bands that never "practice" because each player takes personal time and responsibility to learn their part either you know the material or you don't.

I'm still here. Just got done reading everything. It seems pretty Unanimous and I put most of the facts in the 1st post. But there's a bit more to it.
1st. When I agreed to jam with this drummer, He said 2 to 3 practices per month. This would have been our weekend 4th in a row.
2nd. My Amp was fried so I didn't get any woodshedding dne until Yesterday(Saturday) which is when my two new Heads got here. 1 LH1000 & a Backup Carvin BX 500. The Carvin was fried right out of the Box(3rd one). I set up and tested the Hartke at 10Pm last night after setting up and decorating the Christmas Tree.
3rd. The drummer is constantly nitpicking the other 2 members because they are not getting their **** together at home. I just stand there for minutes while they hash it all out.

I definitely respect all of the feedback which is why I asked. Again this would have been our 4th of 4 Jams together. It's pretty laid back around here and this project was supposed to be just for fun. The Drummer has since gotten a little too serious for me. I also made it clear that I needed to have 1 to 2 weekends off per month for Family time. I did not Just spring that on him But he seems to be transforming from casual Jam to extremely serious.

This is the only way I will play these days. I am past the point in my life where I need or will do much rehearsal with a band. I know may parts, and I can show up cold and nail the gig.

I have kept all of the plastic bags that my cabs came in originally just for this sort of thing. They were basically free and will work fine until I have some extra cash for some custom covers. With just a few minute's research you would be able to find these cheap plastic covers from a company that supplies packing materials or even checking to see if you could get one (or a few) from a music store before they toss them away. The driving in the rain part...your decision.

As of now I was sort of doubting my own level of commitment to this project because the Drummer is pushing too hard for my taste. I'm really the only one ready to gig with the set list but I do realize they need me there for the whole band to get tight. I really wasn't sure how these guys felt about the importance of this one practice during the Rain storm. It's pretty laid back around here and this project was supposed to be laid back. The Drummer has since gotten a little too serious for me. I also made it clear that I needed to have 1 to 2 weekends off per month for Family time. I did not Just spring that on him. I Guess if I were more into the Project, I would be there practising.

Get out of this mess now and do you know how a band gets "tight"? everyone knows their #$% !!! you have a family to take care of if something happens to you I'm sure these "future stars" will have you replaced in no time.

could have stopped reading right here.
ive heard this so many times from people that are known for cancelling things! not just rehearsals.
instance: last month, a band mate :"weve been rehearsing 3 times a week the last month its not that serious that ive just cancelled a rehearsal the thrid time in a row"
if you got time for a project - invest time in that project. dont lazy out. the more you give the more you get

also some people tend to cancel other things for rehearsals while others tend to cancel rehearsals for other things

Well It's pouring today and I really don't like schlepping my Gear in the rain. I called My drummer and he was still pretty gung ho about it but all he has to do Grab his sticks & sit down at his Kit in His living room. I was all set to go but decided against it when I couldn't find anything decent to cover my Cabinets with to keep them dry. I know I should have water proof covers bit I Just don't at this time. So My drummer seems kind of Pissed off about the whole thing. I feel like A Gig on a rainy day is one thing but..... I really don't want to haul my gear to the car then drive 45 minutes in the pouring rain and then haul it from the car up My Drummers Driveway in the rain for one Practice. There's no gigs lined up or emergency and I Do need to woodshed more at home anyway. I'm definitely into the band and the song list etc...Just don't see the need to get my precious gear all wet.

Okay let the flaming or Brotherly support begin:

If there's no gigs there's no reason for rehearsal.

If you are going to lug your new gear around in the rain to go practice with people who aren't prepared and ready to practice for some project that isn't putting food on your table then knock yourself out I think you already know this is a waste of time there are a ton of people chasing the music dream you will have zero time finding other folks to play with.

I didn't know it was that much trouble to get a cheap vinyl cover for you gear. It's a very small investment to protect your equipment.
You are right and I will definitely get everything waterproofed and I was under-prepared today. But.... this really is just a low key Laid back situation. Well.....it started out that way but it's starting to get less laid back quickly.

Don't know about yous guys but I'm just not good enough to not need all the rehearsals, practices, and jams I can get. I even filled in at a rehearsal last night - they have a gig on NYE to get ready for and their bass player couldn't make it. Got to check "play freebird" off the bucket list too :bassist: . It was at the rehearsal space I have my Bugera 1960 + 212MBE rig at so I'm always up for firing that SOB up :D - plus I play with the lead guitarist and drummer on Sunday nights anyways. Gotta swap cabs with one of my 'fridges though  .
