Practice on Very Rainy Days - Slight Rant

I'd be pretty pissed if someone cancelled because they might get a little wet...

Gee, I don't know about that.

I live around Seattle where we get a lot of rain.

I prefer to stay home when it rains and cancel practice. As a result our band doesn't really rehearse much at all. What with all the rain we get here.

I also feel it's better to cancel gigs when it rains too. Which isn't a bad idea anyway since the band rarely practices enough (all the rain you know) to pull off a decent gig.

Plus, then I can spend my valuable time playing video games and eating Cheetos all day.

;);)

PS - I'm not trying to offend the OP. Just having some satirical fun, so don't take to above text too seriously for any reason.

None Taken. I'm just grateful for the few readers that took the few seconds to actually read & comprehend the post in the first place. Most people completely missed the point and are acting like it was rehearsal for a gig at the Colosseum. :rollno:

I think I did comprehend the post. No offense, but I just don't see rain as a reason to cancel anything, except a croquet game, working outside with power tools, or the like.

Look, you already stated that "rain" was an excuse to get out of something you didn't want to do. I don't think anyone is misunderstanding anything.

If you didn't want to jam because the drummer was pushing too hard, you could've said "we agreed to 2x a month, we're going over that so no" instead of using an excuse. That's all I was saying. No offense intended.

Okay let the flaming or Brotherly support begin:

Was this not an invitation to post our thoughts? Or did I miscomprehend that also?? :p

My philosophy is " Never be the one to say NO." If it's really a problem, someone else will cancel/complain/whine, and if no one else does, it must be time to play/work/have a good time! The proper response when asked is "Whatever you guys want to do is fine with me."

That is exactly how I feel.

Tell me the time, place and songs and I'll be there, if I'm not call the hospital or morgue.

Flame on: Lame. The stuff can get wet and it works just fine. Just don't transport your cabinet speaker up it will all be ok. And I understand it's a totally casual thing, but it was nonetheless a commitment you made. Suck it up, buttercup.

Or you could tell them all you're up for practice, and they can come over to your place whenever they want. Tell the drummer to bring a reduced drum kit. See how they respond.

To go back to my most recent comment: this is in the passive aggressive spirit. You came here looking for validation, rather than the criticism that you knew (deep down) you were going to get.

NYCBassist, if I were playing in this band, I would have a lot of questions as to whether I even want to be in this band. What I am reading is that this is mostly a blues jam that gets together a couple times a month with no plans for gigs. I am also reading that, on one hand, the drummer wants this to be more serious, and the other two players are rather sloppy players and do not bother practicing at home, and you feel like you are wasting your time standing around while they get their parts learned, when you took the time to learn your parts at home (usually, except for the equipment disaster this week). And then, now the band wants to practice every weekend, when you have already stated that you want some weekends for family time. Sounds like a situation that would keep me away rain or shine.

Better to have a talk about band direction, and if this is not a good fit for you, move on, and get clarity on what you want in a band situation. Do not waste your time or their time if you really do not want to be there. Why be the guy who cancels the practice? You do not want to have a reputation for that. Find a band you really want to rehearse with that is closer to home, if that is important.

One of the bands I play in is a very casual band, and my musical goals are just not in line with the band's goals, and I am planning on leaving the band. That would give me more time to find a band that is more in fine with my goals.

Keep in mind that this just a casual jam situation with No Plans to Gig. Just 4 older players playing some Blues together.

I don't think too many people read this part. No gigs? Casual? Why the fuss? It's not like rain is the excuse of the week for this guy. He's been to 3 of 3 this week so far.

We'll see what happens when the drummer can't/won't make it. I think that he'll expect everyone to be alright with it. No questions asked.

I always keep my big amp where we practice and have a practice amp to practice at home. I don't have these problems too often.
